It’s not only in the old country that the Yidden fed those Schnorrers. Many Irish immigrants in Lower East Side, Brooklyn, etc, couldn’t or wouldn’t put bread on the table for their kids (because all their money went for booze), so it was the Yiddishe mamma shecheinim who were feeding their kids dinner every night even though they didn’t have much to spare themselves. The British are biased but I think there’s truth to how they shotz up the Irish - when the Irish get into a dispute they’re so stupid that they don’t even know what they’re fighting about!
