Mamaliga Is Just Right—for Shavuot

DIN: I have to admit that my father z"l made this on motzei Shabbos but we children wouldn't touch it ... he didn't use shallots, spinach ...or the cheeses
so when I found this recipe, I wanted to share it.

Mamaliga, the national dish of Romania, has long been beloved by all Romanians—including Jews. Aaron Lebedeff’s famous Yiddish song “Roumania, Roumania” specifically mentions the dish. Evidently, when a Jewish Romanian met someone who he or she thought was Jewish, they would say in Yiddish, “Es mamaliga licht in punem,” meaning: When you eat mamaliga, it shows in your face.

This porridge, made from cornmeal, is often served with sour cream, diced raw onions, and feta cheese. Dairy restaurants, like Ratner’s in New York, served it, especially at the forthcoming holiday of Shavuot.

The late Judith Tihany, whom I knew as a fabulous Romanian Israeli cook and the mother of the restaurant architect Adam Tihany, made a yummy mamaliga layered with spinach, ricotta cheese, and shallots. Adam and I pieced the recipe together—him from memory, me from trying it out. Although I’m not Romanian, I love mamaliga and so does my whole family: It’s a perfect dish for Shavuot.

Mamaliga
  1. Saute the shallots in 2 tablespoons of the butter. Add the spinach little by little on top
and saute until withered but still bright green. Set aside.
  1. Pour 5 cups of water into a heavy saucepan and bring to a rapid boil. Add salt and then
sprinkle on the cornmeal very slowly, stirring constantly with a long wooden spoon. Then reduce the heat to medium and continue stirring until the cornmeal is very thick and firm, about 15 minutes. When the cornmeal forms a ball and no longer sticks to the side of the pan but comes away cleanly from the side, spoon one third of it into a 9 by 9 casserole. Cover with the spinach, then melt the remaining butter and pour over the spinach.
  1.  Cover with another layer of the polenta, then spoon on the feta and the ricotta cheese.
  2. Cover with the remaining polenta, smoothing down. You can serve as is or refrigerate
 until ready to serve.

3. When ready to serve preheat the oven to 350 degrees and bake about 20 minutes or until warm. Then serve with sour cream or yogurt on the side.

Yield: about 6 servings.

Rush Limbaugh Says : Just waking up is a blessing'

Radio host Rush Limbaugh, who is battling advanced lung cancer, says the latest wave of treatment is leaving him "virtually worthless" and that "just waking up is a blessing."

"There have been many cycles, but this is the third wave, and this current wave, I have to tell you, is kicking my a**," Limbaugh said on his national broadcast Tuesday, his first on-air appearance since Thursday.
"For the last seven days, I have been virtually worthless, virtually useless. I haven't left the house. I haven't done much of anything except just try to rest and relax."
The 69-year-old talk-show star noted he was well aware such harmful effects might occur.
"Nothing is happening that was not told me to me," he explained.
"It's the cost. It's the price that you pay if you make the decision to go ahead and do treatment to try to prolong your life. I'm doing extremely well, all things considered, the fact that I'm even here today.
"Every day, I wake up and the first thing I do is thank God that I did," Limbaugh chuckled. "Just waking up is a blessing."
"I know many of you are praying daily and nightly. I happen to believe that they work. I believe that they are sustaining me, and I pray for the energy to be able to do this. But I have to be ... Folks, I have to be honest. I do not have the energy that I used to have."

"Yolie" Roth the "Twitter Fact-checker" Claimed Trump Admin Are ‘ACTUAL NAZIS’

The Twitter official responsible for the platform’s fact-checking policy has tweeted that members of the Trump administration are “Nazis,” among other false and inflammatory statements on the platform.
Yoel Roth, whose official job title is “Head of Site Integrity,” explained the platform’s new policy in a May 11 blog post on “misleading information” on coronavirus.
“In serving the public conversation, our goal is to make it easy to find credible information on Twitter and to limit the spread of potentially harmful and misleading content,” he said.
Twitter appears to have applied that policy to a broader category of assertions, moving beyond COVID-19 to President Donald Trump’s claim on Tuesday that vote-by-mail would lead to more voter fraud — a prediction with which even some Democrats have agreed.
Subsequently, Twitter slapped a “get the facts” label on Trump’s tweets about voter fraud — and provided links to CNN and the Washington Post, two avowedly anti-Trump outlets that enthusiastically pushed the Russia collusion hoax.
Critics on Twitter, ironically, pointed out that Roth’s own tweets include exactly the kind of misleading and abusive content that Twitter’s policy purports to limit.
Roth has also defended his use of the homophobic slur “fag” on the Twitter platform:
As Breitbart News’ Allum Bokhari reported, Tuesday’s intervention is believed to be the first time that the company has used a fact-checking label on one of Trump’s tweets. It is not clear why Twitter chose a tweet about voting by mail.

Kathy Griffin "The Freak" suggests Trump should take syringe with 'nothing but air'

Kathy Griffin was called out on Twitter Tuesday after suggesting that President Trump should take an empty syringe "with nothing but air."
As first reported by the Washington Examiner, Griffin had a graphic response to remarks President Trump made at a White House event dedicated to seniors suffering from diabetes, where he jokingly asked if he should be on "insulin."
"Syringe with nothing but air inside it would do the trick. F--- TRUMP," the comedian reacted.
The Examiner pointed out that "in medical procedures, air accidentally injected into the body's bloodstream through syringes or IVs can cause air embolisms, which can be fatal."
Griffin later doubled down on her tweet, responding to a tweet from the Examiner that noted that the injection of an air-filled syringe could be "fatal."
"I SURE DID, F---ER. #TrumpLiedPeopleDied," Griffin wrote.
A representative for Twitter told the Examiner the platform will "look into" Griffin's tweets as to whether or not they violate the company's terms and policies.
The former "My Life on the D-List" star sparked a firestorm of controversy in 2017 when she posed with a prop severed head of the president during the photo shoot, which resulted in losing her gig as a CNN host during the network's annual New Year's Eve special as well as numerous endorsements and canceled shows. She was also investigated by the Secret Service.
After initially apologizing, Griffin stood by her ISIS-inspired photo shoot and has since launched multiple projects inspired by the experience including a comedy tour and a documentary.

It's Going to be all Right ....Indian Priest Has the cure for Covid-19

Finding a coronavirus cure?...I’m up to my neck in it!

Priest buries himself up to his head and surrounds himself with fire in eight-hour ritual to end the pandemic

A priest in India has taken an unorthodox approach to fighting the coronavirus pandemic.
Srinivasa Siddhar from the southern state of Tamil Nadu buried himself neck-deep in mud and surrounded himself with fire with hopes of putting a stop to the global health crisis.
The priest proved his dedication to eradicating the virus as he stayed buried in the mud for an incredible eight hours.
The incident, which took place in the Pratyangra Devi temple in Thoothukudi, was caught on camera.
The video shows the priest burying his body neck-deep in mud, while leaving just his head visible.
Siddhar can be heard chanting prayers in the video.
He was surrounded by a ring of fire which emitted clouds of black smoke.
The ritual, known as 'Dawa Puja', took place on May 22.
'Puja' is a worship or ritual performed by Hindis and Buddhists to offer homage and prayer to one or more deities or to spiritually celebrate an event.

The Frum Dog That Wouldn't Trim His Beard During Sefirah

A Shih Tzu with a beard, any self-certifying hipster would be proud of is the talk of his local town - and looks remarkably like his owner thanks to their love of the hirsute look.
Pooch Max, from Utah, who is eight-years-old, has his caramel-coloured 'beard' trimmed and shaped every six weeks in a bid to keep it in pristine condition.
The long-haired Shih Tzu simply has to keep the rest of his coat trimmed short to make it appear as if the tiny pet has a lustrous beard.
Owners, Candice, 37, and Cody Hopkins, 42, say that Max is a mini celebrity in their local area - and can't go 'walkies' without being stopped for photographs from fascinated fellow dog fans.

Max's human dad, Cody, is also a fan of the bearded look - proving the old adage that dogs often look like they're owners.
Indeed, the family are often told that Max's beard is in fact more lustrous than Cody's.
Max's fellow owner, Candice, a mother-of-three, said: 'Max is often told that he has a better beard than Cody.
'It's hilarious how well Max pulls of his long beard and we get him groomed every six weeks to ensure it stays a good shape at all times.
'On our daily walks we are stopped by strangers who want to pose up next to Max and have their photos taken.'
She admits: 'I guess it's not every day that you see a dog with a beard.'

For the 'Shtissel Brothers,' life begins at 70

The coronavirus pandemic may have boxed "seniors" age 60 and over as a high-risk group, but at least two of that group's members are feeling more alive than ever.
Unlike many of their peers in retirement, actors Dov Glickman and Sasson Gabai time isn't spent solely pursuing hobbies or playing with their grandchildren. The two are enjoying the type of professional boom actors half their age can only dream about, and are starring in hit shows and plays in Israel and the US.
"I want to enjoy what's left," says Gabai, 72. "I want to do more and more, as much as I can. I have absolutely no intention of slowing down, on the contrary, I'm speeding up."
"I feel I'm getting younger by the day," adds Glickman, 70. "Scientifically, a person is considered old when he begins driving below the speed limit. Seriously, I checked it out with my niece, who researches aging. Well, I'm not there yet. Professionally, this is the best period in my entire acting career. Without a doubt. I'm working on excellent materials, with great partners and great writers and directors."

First-grader finds priceless 3,500-year-old artifact

A six-year-old boy made the discovery of a lifetime after unearthing a rare artifact thought to be more than 3,500 years old.
Last March, while touring the northern Negev archaeological site of Kibbutz Re'im in Tel Jemmeh, six-year-old Imri Elya stumbled upon a small, square clay object with two figures engraved on it.
Curious about the discovery, Elya's parents decided to send it to the Israel Antiquities Authority and the National Treasures Department for more answers. After photographing and documenting the artifact, archaeologists were surprised to realize that this was an extremely rare find.
According to the IAA, the object is a clay tablet depicting a captor leading a naked and humiliated prisoner, dated to the Late Bronze Age between the 12th and 15th centuries BCE.

Zionist lab finds 2 drugs for Gaucher’s disease that also fight COVID-19

The Defense Ministry-run Institute for Biological Research has found two drugs used to treat a genetic disorder known as Gaucher’s disease are also effective against the coronavirus and potentially other viruses as well, the laboratory announced Tuesday.
As one of these drugs — Cerdelga — has already been approved for use by the US Food and Drug Administration and the second — Venglustat — has almost completed the approval process, they may be fast-tracked for use with COVID-19 patients, the Defense Ministry said.
In the proposed antiviral treatment, the two drugs would be taken together.
“The two drugs under development are currently being tested for their effectiveness in treating animals infected with the coronavirus,” the ministry said.
The defense laboratory, which is based in Ness Ziona, has already published the results of a study of the treatment on mice, though the article has yet to be peer-reviewed.
The study on mice found that the medications inhibited the replication of the viruses in the bodies of the infected animals.
In addition to being effective against the coronavirus, the treatment was also found to work against three other viruses, Neuroinvasive Sindbis virus, West Nile virus and Influenza A virus, the researchers wrote.
“This indicates their potential in treating various viral diseases effectively — including future outbreaks of new viruses — once they are clinically approved,” the ministry wrote.

Biden Center received over $70 million from China Since 2017

A watchdog group is asking the U.S. Education Department to investigate the University of Pennsylvania and its Biden Center, a diplomacy and global engagement initiative named after the Democratic presidential candidate, for accepting millions of dollars in anonymous funds from Chinese donors.

The complaint, filed by the National Legal and Policy Center (NLPC), says that over the past three years, the university has accepted around $22 million in anonymous funding from Chinese sources. That’s out of a total of more than $70 million from Chinese donors during that time, the NLPC said.

Those funds, including the anonymous amounts, arrived after the Biden Center was announced in early 2017 and launched in February 2018. The Center is located in downtown Washington, D.C.

Former Yeshiva Student of Ner Yisroel in Baltimore Tries To Run Over His Principal Rabbi Simcha Cook

The Baltimore Police Department is investigating a disturbing incident that occurred on Tuesday morning on Yeshiva Lane, when a man attempted to run over a senior staff member at Yeshiva Ner Yisroel with a vehicle.

Sources say that at around 7:45AM, a staff member had just gotten into his car outside the Yeshiva, when a man deliberately rammed his vehicle into his car. The man managed to get out of his car and run inside the Yeshiva building.
The suspect then continued his rampage, driving at a high-rate of speed and began chasing another senior staff member of the high school with his vehicle. Eyewitnesses say that he missed striking him by inches, as the suspect drove at a high rate of speed.
Police responded in seconds, and managed to apprehend him and take him into custody.
Detectives are investigating the incident, and are not ruling out any motive.
The identity of the suspect has not been released by Police, but sources confirm that he is a former student, and the man he chased is Rabbi Simcha Cook, principal/Menahel of the high school

Malka Leifer Finally Going Home to Face Charges As A Sexual Predator?

Malka Leifer can be extradited to Australia, Israeli court rules

Momentous ruling comes six years after extradition request first filed for alleged child sex abuser
An Israeli court has ruled that the alleged child sex abuser Malka Leifer is mentally fit to stand trial and can be extradited to Australia, where the former Melbourne headteacher is wanted on 74 sexual assault charges.

The pivotal ruling comes six years after Australian police first filed an extradition request, and follows dozens of hearings and setbacks in a dramatic court saga in Jerusalem that has deeply strained relations between Israel and Australia.

“I decided to accept the expert panel’s opinion; she’s fit to stand trial,” Judge Chana Miriam Lomp said of a psychiatric board recommendation from January that accused Leifer of faking mental illness to avoid extradition.

Dassi Erlich, one of three Australian sisters who have accused Leifer of abuse during her time as principal of a Jewish ultra-Orthodox school, tweeted [https://twitter.com/dassi_erlich/status/1265238355169570816?s=20] that she had “too many emotions to process”.

Leifer was absent from the district court on Tuesday, although three of her family members were present.

When it Comes To MK Omer Yankelevich's Family... Chareidim Have No Problem Talking Loshon Hara

Beit Shemesh resident Mrs. Omer Yankelevich is an Israeli attorney, educator and is an MK in the Knesset. She ran on the Blue and White ticket with Benny Ganz.

Benny Ganz appointed her as Minister of Diaspora Affairs...which made Israeli history as being the first Chareidie women appointed as a minister...

So far so good...right??

Wrong!!!

Chareidim who are quick to constantly quote the Chafetz Chayim's sefer "Shmiras Ha"loshon" when exposing Chareidie sexual predators and drug dealers,  have no problem slandering and attacking Omer....

What is quite astonishing that when a Chareidie serial sexual predator gets arrested ... Chareidie newspapers quickly warn their readers that the children and family of the predator is off limits..
"after all why are they at fault?" "why should a child of a spouse of a criminal be harrassed?" "

But all bets are off with Omer Yankelevich's husband and family; they are being viciously attacked and defamed, all because they believe a lady has no right according to halacha to be a minister!

When it comes to the Chareidie agenda then there is no Chofetz Chayim, no Sefer Shmiras Haloshon and no Torah ..

If they want to attack her ... she is a big girl and being a politician she can handle them ....
but why are they attacking her husband and children?

Iran's chief rabbi speaks out against Israel

Rabbi Yehuda Gerami, chief rabbi of the Iranian Jewish community, was asked to give an interview to the official television station of the regime in Tehran and express his views on Israel.

The interview took place during the last Friday of Ramadan, known as Al-Quds Day, which is traditionally devoted to anti-Israeli incitement.

"We Iranian Jews want to send this message to Zionists and primarily to [Prime Minister Binyamin] Netanyahu. Know that you Zionists do not represent Judaism and do not represent the Jewish people. You represent only the idea of a political movement whose ideas and values run counter to the ideas and values of our sacred teachings and Jewish religion,” Rabbi Gerami said.

The Jewish community in Iran, numbering about 8,000, lives in the country in the shadow of fear of harassment or accusations of espionage. Its leaders are constantly trying to differentiate between Judaism and Zionism.

While Iranian leaders regularly call for Israel’s destruction, the Jewish community there is on good terms with the authorities.
