Massive Floods In Israel: 2 Months’ Worth Of Rain In Hours; Dozens Rescued

After weeks of a record-breaking heatwave, which was briefly interrupted a week ago by a day and a half of rainfall, Israel was hit with a storm overnight Monday with an unprecedented amount of rainfall in a short period.

The heavy rainfall, which intensified on Tuesday morning, caused massive flooding, and numerous people had to be rescued from their vehicles and even their homes. In Elkana in the Shomron, several homes flooded, and at least 10 residents, including small children, were evacuated from their homes by firefighters.

In Binyamin, part of the security barrier collapsed, leading to the closure of a major road.

A van carrying children to school got stuck on a road in Ramat Beit Shemesh Daled and were rescued by responders in a kayak:

“Extremely large amounts of rainfall fell in the Shomron and northern Negev,” meteorologist Lior Sudri told Kol Chai. “In the Shomron, two months’ worth of rain fell in less than six hours. It’s unprecedented.”

There was also very heavy rain in the Jerusalem hills and the Shefela region, but almost no rain fell in central Israel. “In Gush Dan only very little rain fell,” Sudri said. “In Tel Aviv, Bnei Brak, and Petach Tikva—maybe a millimeter. Nothing dramatic.”

He added that the rain was dramatic but brief. “The clouds will disperse by this afternoon. Starting tomorrow—warm and pleasant weather.”

He added that there’s room for optimism. ““We believe that this winter will be significantly better than last year, which was extremely dry.”

Renowned Journalist Warns: ‘Wake Up, Israel — U.S. Support Could Vanish Once Trump Leaves Office’ USA a Fading Empire!!

In a sharply worded commentary posted Monday, at Arutz 7, veteran international journalist Robert Besser urges Israeli leaders to confront what he describes as an approaching geopolitical shock: the end of President Donald Trump’s term in 38 months and the potential collapse of reliable American backing.

Besser argues that Israel’s current sense of security is tied almost entirely to the personality-driven support of Trump, not to long-term U.S. policy. He warns that once Trump leaves the White House in January 2029, “there is no guarantee the next administration—especially one led by the American left—will stand with Israel.”

He writes that Israeli statecraft cannot rely on the temporary friendship of a single leader, especially one he describes as motivated by “ego-driven ambitions for recognition as a peacemaker.” Historical precedents, he notes, show how well-intentioned peace efforts can lead to disastrous outcomes.

Besser says Israel must urgently reduce its military dependence on Washington and expand strategic alliances across Asia—particularly with India, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Singapore—nations he believes share Israel’s cultural values of work, family, education, and national pride.

He paints a bleak picture of America’s future, describing the country as weakened by ideological extremism, declining leadership, and institutional decay. He warns that left-leaning governments may one day curtail or sever military cooperation with Israel, as he says President Biden previewed by pausing arms shipments during the Gaza war.

Besser adds that if U.S. aid to Arab states collapses, peace agreements with countries like Egypt and Jordan could crumble, reopening the door to regional conflict.

“Wake up,” Besser cautions, insisting that Jewish history teaches the danger of depending on fading empires. The time for Israel to prepare for a world without automatic Western support, he says, is now, not in crisis.

Charedi Teenager Rescued From 36-Story Crane Counterweight In Jerusalem

A preliminary investigation shows the 15-year-old climbed a crane on top of a 44-story building around midnight.

He slipped near the top, grabbed a cable and slid down until he was stuck on the counterweight,  where he remained trapped for hours.

This morning a passerby spotted him and alerted police and rescue teams.

News report!
Emergency responders succeeded in executing a complex high-rise rescue operation early Monday morning, saving a 15-year-old charedi teenager who was trapped on a crane atop a 44-story building in Jerusalem. The incident occurred at the same structure near the central bus station where another teen tragically fell during last month’s ‘Million Person Rally’ protest.

Fire and rescue teams deployed advanced rope systems to navigate the challenging access and angles of the crane. They successfully reached the teen, secured him with harnesses, and lowered him safely to the ground. The boy was unharmed and handed over to medical and police personnel for evaluation. He had apparently climbed up during the night to the top of the crane, slipped down the rope and landed on top of the crane’s counterweight, where he apparently called for help for hours.

Deputy Jerusalem District Commander, Sub-Fire Chief Ayal Cohen, who oversaw the rescue operation from the command post, highlighted the team’s preparedness: “This morning demonstrated the high operational readiness of our special rescues unit. Just yesterday, we conducted a complex drill simulating a crane rescue, and today, the firefighters applied those skills in real time. Training and professionalism ensured a safe resolution.”

MDA (Magen David Adom) reported receiving the alert at 07:08 and dispatched medics and paramedics to provide on-site medical support during the firefighters’ efforts.

The rescue underscores ongoing safety concerns at high-rise construction sites in the city, with authorities now investigating how the teen had accessed the crane.

With the dramatic rescue now complete, Fire and Rescue officials emphasized, “It does not appear to be a suicide attempt; the teenager called himself and requested assistance. It is still unclear how he reached the location.”

i24 News reported that he said, “I wanted to see the view.”

Federal judge dismisses indictments against Letitia James and James Comey on a Technicality

A federal judge dismissed the indictments against former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James on Monday.

The judge found that President Donald Trump’s appointment of interim US Attorney Lindsey Halligan in Alexandria, Virginia, was invalid.

Trump handpicked Halligan for the role amid increasing pressure to bring criminal cases against his political enemies, including Comey and James.

“The Attorney General’s attempt to install Ms. Halligan as Interim U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia was invalid,” Judge Cameron McGowan Currie wrote in her Monday order.

According to Currie, “all actions flowing from Ms. Halligan’s defective appointment” including the indictments against Comey and James “were unlawful exercises of executive power and are hereby set aside.”

The judge tossed out the cases “without prejudice,” leaving open the possibility that the cases against Comey and James can be brought again alleging the same conduct. But McGowan Currie appeared to acknowledge in her ruling that for Comey, such a move may not be possible since the statute of limitations for his charges has now passed.

Bennett does not rule out coalition with Arab parties

Former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett did not rule out the possibility of being part of a coalition that includes Arab parties, according to a report broadcast Sunday evening on Kan 11 News.

Speaking at a supporters’ conference in Jerusalem, Bennett was asked whether he would commit to avoiding a coalition with either the haredi or Arab parties. “If seats are lacking, we will have to compromise on a thousand things, and that would be very bad,” he replied. “If the public does not turn out to vote, we will face collapse.”

Positioning himself as the only viable alternative to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Bennett said: “There is a clear Jewish majority for change - 20 seats that voted for parties in the coalition but are dissatisfied. They are mainly Likud supporters and right-wingers. If you put at the top someone who advocates left-wing policies, they won’t accept it. That’s why we checked. These seats - if it is clear to them that it’s Bennett versus Netanyahu - they will vote Bennett.”

He concluded by appealing to his supporters: “I am speaking with the players, with Gadi [Eisenkot] and Evet (Avigdor Liberman), and you can help by writing online that you are with Bennett. That will encourage them to join as well.”

Colombia raids Lev Tahor compound, rescuing 17 boys, girls, and teens from cult members.

Authorities in Colombia announced Sunday night that they had rescued 17 minors from the Lev Tahor cult.

"We rescued 17 boys, girls, and teenagers," Colombia’s immigration authority wrote on X, alongside blurred images of some of the children. "International alerts have been issued regarding crimes against minors connected to this group."

A police report added: “There are indications that some may be victims of kidnapping, suggesting possible human trafficking disguised as religious activity.”

MK Gilad Kariv, who chairs the Knesset Committee for Immigration, Absorption, and Diaspora Affairs, responded: "I commend the Colombian authorities for rescuing 17 minors from the clutches of the Lev Tahor cult."

"The fact that members of the cult were caught in Colombia shows the group's efforts to hide from the eyes of the authorities, and should worry the Israeli government," he added. "As we have repeatedly demanded in Committee hearings, the Israeli government must adopt a clear directive to bring all the sect’s children to Israel - for rescue and rehabilitation."

Last month, approximately ten families affiliated Lev Tahor, who had recently resettled in the New York area, fled to Honduras during the Simchat Torah and Shemini Atzeret holidays.

Their flight followed direct instructions from the sect’s imprisoned leadership, currently serving sentences in a federal prison in Brooklyn.

These families had previously regained custody of their children from welfare authorities in Guatemala after committing to leave the cult, which was officially dismantled earlier this month.

However, some of the families secretly regrouped in New York and coordinated an escape to Honduras, a country known for weak child protection policies.

The directive to flee during the Jewish holiday, thereby desecrating it, was reportedly issued by the cult’s incarcerated leaders, who were convicted of severe crimes against children and members of the sect. The timing was calculated to avoid detection which could have thwarted the escape.

A source familiar with the situation stated, "Honduras is a corrupt country, similar to Guatemala. This was all done through manipulation by the jailed leaders, who convinced the families that it was better to live in a country with no Jewish presence than to remain in America."
