Jewish Agency estimates global crisis will spark mass return, floats 100,000 number

Jewish Agency chairman Isaac Herzog expects that up to 100,000 people may leave their home countries for Israel, or make aliyah (literally “ascent”), once the current global health emergency is under control, Makor Rishon reported on Sunday.
Herzog called for the government and aliyah-oriented groups to prepare for “a major wave of immigration to Israel when the corona crisis ends, as happened in the past after many crises in Jewish communities around the world since the establishment of the state.”
In many places, Jews have been especially hard-hit by the deadly COVID-19 virus, with infections and deaths far out of proportion to their percentage in the population.
In Great Britain, 335 Jews have accounted for 1.6 percent of the deaths so far, while consisting of only 0.37 percent of the population. In France, an article in Haaretz stated two weeks ago that “coronavirus-related deaths are reportedly four times the proportion for the overall population.”
In the United States, there seems to be no official breakdown by religious affiliation, but anecdotal evidence suggests many hundreds of deaths at least, as Jewish burial societies report being overwhelmed.
JTA reported in early April that New York City’s Department of Health released figures showing that heavily Jewish areas have especially high rates of infection. While the average positive test rate in the city was 53 percent, in Boro Park, for example, over 67 percent of tests came back positive.

Israeli Mashgiach who flew to and from US Knowing That he Had the Virus has his work visa revoked

This story is crazy ..... here is a Mashgiach, a guy that makes sure the food you eat is kosher on one hand, and with other hands he serves you poison..

A mashgiach is supposed to be a "yerei shamayim" ..one who fears G-D ...... yet this menuval and potential murderer had no problem spreading the disease on purpose to at least 50 people that traveled with him ... to save himself some money; he had no US insurance..

This guy travelled to the US on a regular bases ....why the company needed to import a fanatical guy from Beiter Illit,  and couldn't find an unemployed genuine frum guy from the US ,  G-d only knows....
Since this menuval travelled on a regular bases he knew that for just a couple of bucks he can get insurance that would cover him in the US ...but he wanted to save himself a hundred bucks..

Read it and weep ...

Reb Shayala Kresterir Yurzeit

Whenever one mentions Reb Shayale, or Reb Yeshaya ben reb Moshe one is filled with awe, only 90 years since his Passing and the Yeshuos are still pouring out, like the food that Reb Shayale used to dish out miraculously without it ever ending until the last visitor got to eat.

His Tzavah – his will – is to emulate his ways – copy him – have Rachmonus on poor people and help to your upmost without making a chesbon.

Today is his Yahrtzeit

 – 3rd of Iyar, every year hundreds and thousands used flock to his home and kever to ask for Yeshuos and Refuos.

Leilui Nishmas Reb Shaya ben Reb Moishe, light a candle in his memory,
Reb Shayale will be Meilitz Yosher for you in Shomayim, by emulating his ways.

What Did BMG Do With the 6 Million Dollars They Got From the Stimulus Package?

This guy on the video, as well intentioned as he is, is very naive!

He is asking why BMG that got 6 million dollars from the US government, did not distribute a penny to the widows and orphans from this virus...

He is wondering what happened to all this money intended for the Lakewood community that is suffering with lost parnassah, and are practically starving ...
why wasn't a penny distributed to parents of yeshiva kids to make the burden of "schar limmud" a bit easier?

See ... he doesn't get it.....

That money has already disappeared ... yup disappeared like Casper the ghost!

He naively thinks that because BMG stands for Torah, they will distribute some of the loot .......
This would be so funny if it weren't so tragic .

In the town of Narvardok the "Alter" would  explain .. that there are two types of people .... "Givers"and "Takers!" "Noisen" or "Noitel"

If this guy on the video would learn this mussar concept ...
he would understand why not one Szlub in Lakewood will see one agurot!

Majority of Israeli Jews, Arabs view Israel favorably

Even as COVID-19 ravages communities in the Jewish State, Israelis today appear to be more satisfied than ever before with their everyday lives.

They also share a sense of cohesion, with both the Jewish and Arab populace of the country reporting a positive outlook on affairs of State.

The Guttman Institute for Public Opinion and Policy Research at the Democracy Institute found that even Israeli Arabs, 87% of whom voted for the Joint Arab List in April's Knesset elections, favorably viewed Israel's achievements.

According to the public opinion poll, approximately 77% of Israeli Arabs claimed they feel that they are a part of Israeli society and share its problems. Forty-four percent said the Jewish State's success rate surpasses its failures, compared to 63.5% of the entire population and 67% of its Jewish citizens.

A total of 93.5% of the haredi public said they associated with the State. For comparison's sake, last year, just 68.5% of the haredi sector said they connected with their country of residence and shared in its problems. The survey's results provided the most optimistic view in decades.

Three days ahead of Israel's 72nd Independence Day, some 44% of the public voiced support for the policies of elected officials, 66% said they were satisfied with actions taken by the health ministry, and 55% voiced support for Prime Minister Netanyahu even as the majority of the country remains on lockdown.

A total of 57.9% of the public said the government's response to the CV-19 pandemic was proportional, while 37.4% claimed it was exaggerated.
Nearly half (47.8%) said the media was taking the crisis out of proportion, with 47.6% saying it was providing accurate coverage.

Tzanz-Klausenberg Rebbe: ‘Who Wants To Be A Murderer Even By Accident?’

The Tzanz-Klausenberg Rebbe of Boro Park harshly criticized people who are ignoring public health regulations and continuing to immerse in mikves and make public minyanim. (The rebbe was referring to males, as mikves for females have higher levels of hygiene.)

The rebbe, who is the brother of the Tzanz Rebbe of Netanya, Israel and son of the Shefa Chayim of Klausenberg, spoke at a special guidance talk for his Chasidim and said that those who show contempt for the regulations are “light-headed” people, since a person is not the owner of his body and has no right to harm himself, as it is written “one who knowingly causes his own death has no portion in the world to come.”
“Suddenly they are Tzadikim,” the rebbe said scornfully, adding that “are they such Tzadikim on other matters? The Torah warned specifically about guarding one’s body and soul and one who endangers himself is akin to one who detests the wishes of his Creator. There is no greater contempt than that.”

Rav David Jemal

HaRav David Jemal ZT”L was approximately 70, and was Niftar from COVID-19.
Rav Jemal was the longtime Rabbi at Kehillat Har Lebanon on Avenue S and East 9th Street in Flatbush, and was loved by all.
His passing is a devastating blow to the entire Brooklyn Sephardic Jewish Community.
When asking anyone if they could describe Rav Jemal, they all said the same thing: He would literally always be seen with a smile on his face, his life full of Simchas Hachayim and Simchas Hatorah.
He would teach boys of all ages how to sing Sephardic “Pizmonim” and Lag Baomer songs at Yeshivat Ateret Torah, and spent an incredible amount of time teaching Sephardic children giving them the proper education of their heritage, making sure they all knew how to read all the Tefillos with the correct Sephardi Minhagim.
The last thing Rabbi Jemal was seen doing before being taken to the hospital a few weeks ago, was dancing at the front window of his home for young children who came to wish him a Refuah Shilaima.
When the late great Mekubal HaRav Kaduri came to Brooklyn, he stayed by Rabbi Jemal.

Chutz Le'Aaretz Jews are flying loved ones to Israel for burial ....$650,000.00 a pop

Guys .... I don't get it ....
You open any of the Fummie News Blogs like Yeshivaworld, Vosisnies , Matzav, etc.... and what do you see?
Ads to help the recent widows, widowers, who have each  left 5- 15 orphans..
My heart goes out because there is no doubt that these families are suddenly thrust into impossible situations.. families have lost their bread winners ..Children have lost their parents ...Husbands have suddenly been left without a wife and means and understanding how they will manage to work and yet take care of babies, toddlers. and teenagers.... It's heartbreaking...Who will help them cope? ..... yes they absolutely need all the help they can get...
Yes please open your hearts and wallets to help these desperate families ...
So how is it that there are people out there chartering private planes to transport their dead loved ones .. spending over $200,000.00 ...  the Jerusalem post said the costs are $650,000.00 ?
They are now trying to hold the dead for a couple of days so they can accumulate more bodies and charter a larger plane to take the costs down ... (I am not kidding)
The usual fee in "normal times is about  $3,000.00 ....I'm told
Yes I know that these people give lots of tzedaakeh and help all those in need ...
I have a cousin that died last week in the US and suddenly I get a text that I can watch the funeral taking place in Yerushalyim on zoom....
I naively asked "didn't he die in Florida?"
"oh yes, but he is coming home now"
HE IS COMING HOME??? HOME???
This is crazy and must be stopped ...now!
Multiply that $500,000.00 to about 60, that took place just last week ...
Wouldn't it have been a bigger mitzvah to give that money to the families, so they wouldn't have to humiliate themselves, begging like a bunch of schnorrers on the internet? There are elderly people living by themselves who cannot get out, and who are embarrassed to ask for help ... couldn't that money go to them?
Do you know that Cuomo because of his bungling response in New York sent the sick to nursing homes that killed thousands .....yes you heard that right..over 3,500 thousand people died in nursing homes because Cuomo who was endorsed by all the Heimishe rebbes sent sick Corona Virus people to nursing homes infecting the people already there..
Do you think that some of that money would have been better spent taking out at least the frum residents and to put them up in safe hotels? Like they are doing in Israel?
Is saving a life now on the bottom of the list? I know that the number one mitzvah is to daven with a minyan ... though no Rishon ever  counted davening with minyan as a mitzvah .... not amongst the Biblical and not amongst the Rabbinic mitzvos ..
So now transporting someone who while he was alive could care less about Israel , and would criticise the Zionist State for Chillul Shabbos Gius and Gay Parades, is now a mitzvah worth spending more than $500,000.00??
Is that what Hashem wants? or is that what the dead guy wanted ....?
I have a question for the dead guy.... Now that you are dead, you don't care about Chillul Shabbos and Gay Parades and the IDF Giyus? So now that you cannot breathe the holy air of Eretz Yisrael..... now it's ok to be here?
I don't get it?

Beit Shemesh "Bet" the Extremist Part of BS in Lockdown

The cabinet on Friday ordered a lockdown on the ultra-Orthodox neighborhood of Beit Shemesh "Bet" where there has been a spike in coronavirus infections in recent days.

The lockdown will start on Sunday at 6 a.m and run for at least 5 days until Friday at 6 a.m, the cabinet decided in a video conference meeting.

The decision comes after it authorized a significant easing of restrictions on the rest of the country earlier Friday morning.

The lockdown restrictions are similar to those imposed on the city of Bnei Brak and several Jerusalem neighborhoods in recent weeks, barring people from leaving. Those were lifted on Sunday.

Beit Shemesh Bet has seen several protests in recent days against government orders keeping synagogues and yeshiva study halls closed and police have broken up several illegal gatherings.

The Health Ministry said that during the lockdown the IDF’s Home Front Command would help ensure that residents had access to food and basic services.
Small segments of the ultra-Orthodox community have been resistant to adhering to government orders, particularly those shutting down synagogues and yeshivas.

57 Five Towns/Far Rockaway Rabbis Against ALL Minyanim Anywhere

Rosh Chodesh I’yar 5780, 15 B’Omer April 24, 2020
Lichvod the Wonderful Members of our Far Rockaway and Five Towns Community שיחיו,
We sincerely hope that this letter finds you all managing well under the current difficult circumstances, and we daven continuously that HaKB”H send all Acheinu B’nei Yisroel the refuos, nechamos, and yeshuos for which we all so truly yearn.
There has recently been much discussion regarding the loosening of social distancing restrictions. We would like to specifically address herein the numerous calls and requests that have been presented to all our community Rabbanim regarding outdoor Minyanim.
Many individuals have been asking Rabbanim to demonstrate leadership by issuing clear guidelines for the establishment of safe outdoor Minyanim. We all understand that Tefilla Bi’Tzibbur is a crucial imperative for Klal Yisroel, especially in a time of crisis, and that davening together could provide us the זכויות and the connection that we so desperately need. People are requesting that Rabbanim, in conjunction with medical professionals, create guidelines for safe and legal Minyanim in our neighborhoods, with all participants wearing masks at safe distances, perhaps on separate properties, with safeguards in place to ensure that there is no significant risk.
We, the undersigned Rabbanim and Roshei Yeshivos, after much thought and careful consideration, feel obligated to communicate- in unequivocal terms- our united decision to reinforce our previous mandate, and bid our community against the creation of any Minyanim, as well as to cease unauthorized Minyanim. This includes porches, front-/backyard, Minyanim– with no exceptions whatsoever. We will continue to reassess and reanalyze this decision on a regular and ongoing basis as new developments unfold.

A Vort About the Virus from DIN

This Shabbat most shuls will say the tefila of אב הרחמים before מוסף ........

So you ask what is the chidush? Don't we say אב הרחמים every shabbos?

Actually no, we usually skip this prayer,
a prayer that deals with those Jews that were martyred for being Jews,
when there is a bris in shul , or when there is a groom present who is in midst of his sheva berachos, or if that particular shabbos is Parshas Zachor, Parshas Para, Parshas Ha'choidesh, Shabbos Shekalim....

And there is another shabbos that we don't say אב הרחמים and that's when Shabbos is also Rosh Chodesh...

Rabbi Avraham Yeshayahu Heber, Founder of Matnat Chaim for Kidney Transplants Succombs to Corona

Rabbi Heber 55, was the founder and director of the organization Matnat Chaim which facilitated kidney transplants for those in need. The organization recently celebrated the 800th transplant.

"Matnat Chaim is an Israeli non-profit dedicated to encouraging healthy volunteers to donate kidneys to patients who require a transplant. None of the kidney donors receive monetary compensation for their donation and most are altruistic donors who do not know their recipients prior to the procedure. The organization functions on a not-for-profit basis; the sole motivation of our volunteers is their desire to help others and save lives."
Rabbi Heber himself was a recipient of a kidney transplant and had been ill for about two weeks.

Mayor Aliza Bloch:
"This is an evening of sadness at the tragic death of Rabbi Heber who helped to save 821 lives. Only a few months ago, I participated in a special Shabbat sponsored by Matnat Chaim and learned of the work of this wonderful organization. Each time a resident of Beit Shemesh would donate a kidney thru the work on Matnat Chaim, I would receive a message from Rabbi Heber telling me how important it was to recognize these special people."
"We send our condolences to the family of the Rabbi, our hearts cry out at this heavy loss."

Mordechai Marcus ZT”L, Rov of Lakewood Minyan of Flatbush

Hagaon HaRav Mordechai Marcus ZT”L, the Rov of the Beth Medrash Govoha Minyan (Lakewood Minyan) in Flatbush was nifter this morning .. He was 78 years old.
Rav Marcus, rov of the Lakewood Minyan in Flatbush, was one of Brooklyn’s most prominent talmidei chachomim.
In his younger years, Rav Marcus was a talmid at Yeshivas Rabbeinu Yaakov Yosef (RJJ). Even as a young ben Torah, he was already recognized for his brilliance. It was said that even the rabbeim respected Rav Marcus, knowing that in a moment he could refute a sevara or shlog up a shiur.
With a grasp of all of Shas and Shulchan Aruch, Rav Marcus’s breadth and depth of yedios haTorah were breathtaking. His talents and encyclopedic knowledge benefited the ArtScroll Schottenstein Gemara, for which he served as an editor, as well as those who attended his many shiurim.
Equal to his absolute brilliance in Torah, Rav Marcus was as humble a person as one could meet, with sterling middos and deference for every individual, no matter who they were.
Rav Marcus is survived by his rebbetzin and children, bnei Torah and marbitzei Torah, and grandchildren.
