So What changed, Nancy?
The video above shows how Nancy Pelosi’s views on using National Guard troops against protestors in Washington, DC has taken a full 180 in less than 1 year.
In the first part of the video, Pelosi is shown praising of group National Guard troops on January 13, 2021.
“I hope that the fact that you are here will be a deterrent to those who have come to undermine our Constitution,” says Pelosi to a group of around 20 or so soldiers.
“We want the message to be clear,” Pelosi continues, “that the Capitol, our Democracy, our Constitution are safe because of your patriotism.”
In the second part of the video, taken from Pelosi’s weekly press conference on June 4, 2020, Pelosi discussed a letter that she had sent to President Trump, condemning him for deploying National Guard troops to D.C. during the violent and deadly George Floyd riots.
“I sent a letter to the President expressing concern about the increased militarization and lack of clarity that might increase chaos,” read Pelosi.
“By what authority do these National Guard people come in from other states?” asks Pelosi to President Trump.
“Of course today is a day of great sadness,” Pelosi claims at the end of the video.

The ultra-Orthodox community has always lived as a kind of enclave, separate from the society in which it lived. Its rabbis have long opposed the use of the Internet, but with the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, many Haredim have rushed to get Internet to stay updated on the news.
"Internet use has accelerated during the [coronavirus] crisis and continues to do so," Dr. Gilad Malach told Israel Hayom. Malach is the director of the Israel Democracy Institute's Ultra-Orthodox in Israel Program.
"Many Haredim came to realize to what degree they were disconnected from the news and society in general, and began using the Internet even without official permission [from the rabbis]."
"They want a closer interaction with the world, especially because of the coronavirus. The rabbis' fight against the Internet is failing, at least at the moment."
Malach stressed that those who have already started using the Internet would not be too quick to give it up. The development has sociological consequences, too. For example, distance learning can be used for school and to integrate Haredim into the labor market.
"Access to the Internet may reshape the boundaries of the enclave, and that is why this change is so significant," he said.
The coronavirus has also aggravated the already strained relationship between the ultra-Orthodox and secular sectors in Israel. Each feels the exact opposite: Haredim think that the government does not take them into account in their coronavirus-related decisions and that the police use excessive force in their communities; secular Israelis feel that Haredi Knesset members have too much decision-making power, making sure no lockdown is instituted in religious neighborhoods and that there is not enough police enforcement when Haredi schools stay open during the lockdowns.
Meanwhile, the coronavirus is affecting the relationship between American and Israeli religious Jews, as well.
"There used to be a hint of arrogance in the American Hassidic community's treatment of their relatives in Israel. It was part of the common 'the wealthy American uncle will help his Israeli relatives' narrative," says Rabbi Elhanan Poupko, a member of the Rabbinical Council of America and serves as the president of EITAN-The American Israeli Jewish Network.
"That will never happen again. The balance of power has changed. The pandemic has severely affected the Chassidic community, including financially. It is a great lesson in humility. It is now the uncle from Bnei Brak or Jerusalem who is looking down on his cousin in New York. Israel is in a much better position now, we think," Poupko says.
Poupko believes a shift is required in the way the Israeli Haredim perceive their brethren in the US.
"The 'wealthy American uncle' mentality nurtured complacency. There is now a renewed responsibility on Israelis to hear from the other side [Jews in the US] and show genuine interest. This may be an opportunity to change the Israeli public's commitment to their brethren abroad," he says.

In his first hours as president, Joe Biden plans to take executive action to roll back some of the most controversial decisions of his predecessor and to address the raging coronavirus pandemic, his incoming chief of staff said Saturday.
The opening salvo would herald a 10-day blitz of executive actions as Biden seeks to act swiftly to redirect the country in the wake of Donald Trump’s presidency without waiting for Congress.
On Wednesday, following his inauguration, Biden will end Trump’s restriction on immigration to the US from some Muslim-majority countries, move to rejoin the Paris climate accord and mandate mask-wearing on federal property and during interstate travel. Those are among roughly a dozen actions Biden will take on his first day in the White House, his incoming chief of staff, Ron Klain, said in a memo to senior staff.
Other actions include extending the pause on student loan payments and actions meant to prevent evictions and foreclosures for those struggling during the pandemic.
“These executive actions will deliver relief to the millions of Americans that are struggling in the face of these crises,” Klain said in the memo. “President-elect Biden will take action — not just to reverse the gravest damages of the Trump administration — but also to start moving our country forward.”
“Full achievement” of Biden’s goals will require Congress to act, Klain said, including the $1.9 trillion virus relief bill he outlined on Thursday. Klain said that Biden would also propose a comprehensive immigration reform bill to lawmakers on his first day in office.
The next day, Thursday, Klain said Biden would sign orders related to the COVID-19 outbreak aimed at reopening schools and businesses and expanding virus testing. The following day, Friday, will see action on providing economic relief to those suffering the economic costs of the pandemic.
In the following week, Klain said, Biden would take additional actions relating to criminal justice reform, climate change and immigration — including a directive to speed the reuniting of families separated at the US-Mexico border under Trump’s policies.
More actions will be added, Klain said, once they clear legal review.

Officials in the incoming Biden administration have already begun holding quiet talks with Iran on a return to the 2015 nuclear deal, and have updated Israel on those conversations, Channel 12 News reported Saturday.
The network gave no sourcing for the report, and no details on what was allegedly discussed.
US President-elect Joe Biden has indicated his desire to return to the accord, while Israel is pushing for any return to the deal to include fresh limitations on Iran’s ballistic missile program and support for terror and destabilization around the world.
On Wednesday, Walla News reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is assembling a team to strategize for the first talks with the Biden administration on Iran’s nuclear program.

Soon after its release, the new cookbook “Dinner Done: Practical Recipes For Your Busy Day” zipped to Amazon’s number one new release in the kosher cooking category and fast sold out in Israel. It’s the paper and ink incarnation of the unique Orthodox Jewish lifestyle site Between Carpools, whose creators have unlocked the riddle of maintaining a strong social media presence while resisting an immodest “look at me” aesthetic.
The brains behind the operation — Leah Schapira, Victoria Dwek, Renee Muller, Esti Waldman, and Shaindy Menzer — don’t just chalk the website and book’s popularity among Orthodox women up to recipes such as Spice It Up Chicken. Or the advice on how to lengthen too-short dresses with vibrant grosgrain ribbons. Or even the step-by-step instructions on how to jumpstart a car.
Clearly they’ve filled a niche; the site has about 90,000 viewers per month and their Instagram account has 37,100 followers — all while keeper their real super mom identities under wraps.
“It’s not about us. It’s about sharing. To our readers we’re like a big sister in your back pocket that you can go to for advice,” said Dwek, a kosher food writer and co-author of six cookbooks.

As the US House of Representatives approved articles of impeachment against President Trump, a Georgia congresswoman says she will take steps to impeach Biden the day after he is sworn in.
“On January 21st, I’m filing Articles of Impeachment on President-elect Joe Biden,” Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene tweeted on Thursday.
“75 million Americans are fed up with inaction. It’s time to take a stand. I’m proud to be the voice of Republican voters who have been ignored,” she added.
Speaking to Newsmax, Taylor Greene, who was elected to Congress in November and represents Georgia's 14th Congressional District, said “we have to make sure our leaders are held accountable."
"We cannot have a president of the United States who is willing to abuse the power of the office of the presidency and be easily bought off by foreign governments, Chinese and Ukrainian energy companies,” she explained.

It is an article of faith for many Americans that the Donald Trump years were an aberration and that Joe Biden will usher in something close to normalcy. I’ll take the other side of that bet.
I believe the coming years are going to be at least as tumultuous as the Trump presidency. Although Biden will not directly cause that tumult, his weakness as a leader, of his own party and the nation, will help fuel discord and make it impossible for him to forge anything resembling normalcy.
Most of those who think Biden can wave a magic wand blame Trump alone for the deep polarization gripping America. They’re wrong — Trump was elected precisely because the country already was deeply polarized.
Moreover, while Trump’s personality is highly unorthodox, to say the least, he did not single-handedly set in motion the dangerous levels of strife engulfing our nation. His successful policies on immigration, taxes and the Mideast were fairly conventional by Republican standards.
Instead, the unrest and growing use of violence to achieve political ends are outgrowths of the extreme resistance movement against Trump. He ran as a disrupter, but was a piker compared to those who hated him and were willing to smash every social, political and legal norm to drive him from office.
That resistance was started by Hillary Clinton and holdouts from the 2016 election and spread to Democrats in Congress, especially Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi. Their refusal to treat Trump as a legitimate president and worthy of their cooperation marks them as early victims of Trump Derangement Syndrome.
