Over the weekend, Israel Border Police detectives from the Mateh Yehuda station were operating in the Route 1 area, following a report received about a vehicle that had been stolen shortly beforehand from the Gan Yavne area and was making its way toward Jerusalem.
Upon receiving the report, the detectives positioned themselves along the route with the assistance of additional police patrol cars, and identified the stolen vehicle near the Hemed Interchange. The detectives began covert surveillance of the vehicle while preparing operationally to stop it.
Shortly afterward, in a traffic jam created by a deliberate block by one of the police patrol cars, the detectives got out of their vehicle and approached the car to arrest the suspect. The suspect barricaded himself inside the vehicle and refused to open the doors, and as a result the detectives had to break one of the vehicle’s windows and complete his arrest.
The suspect, a 43-year-old resident of the territories from Tulkarem, who was in Israel without the permits required by law, was taken for questioning at the Mateh Yehuda station of the Israel Border Police Jerusalem. His detention was extended by the court, and the vehicle is expected to be returned to its owner soon.
