I’m sharing this video — and I have hundreds more just like it — to make a very simple point.
Charedim constantly tell themselves, and tell the rest of us, that the reason they don’t enlist in the IDF is because they’re afraid they’ll go off the derech.
But look closely at the people in this video. Every single one of them went off the derech — and not one of them ever served in the army. Not one.
They were all raised in the heart of the Charedi world: Bnei Brak, Beitar Illit, Beit Shemesh Bet, and Meah Shearim. They have zero connection to the Dati Leumi communities.
Recently, they told a reporter that had they been given the opportunity to serve, it’s very likely they would have stayed frum.
I don’t know if that’s true — nobody can know for sure. But one thing is certain:
At the very least, they would have served in a Jewish army and had the zchus of being moser nefesh for the rest of Klal Yisrael.

Again, this is one of the DL community's biggest failures. There should be a DL system like Chabad as with outreach to people on the edge of Meah Shearim. Yes you can be frum without being in a nutbar lifestyle. Yes you can be frum and serve in the army, work and have a normal life. Something that will keep folks like this on the derech and give them happiness.

I totally disagree. You are correct that these guys didn't serve in the IDF. But they went OTD whether they were or weren't in the Army. The problem is that if a yeshiva bochur goes to the Army, there is a good chance that he will go OTD.

I live in Beit Shemesh for 9 years now, and I see my neighbors' children who went into the army, frum, and came out frum, not one single guy went OTD!
Yes, there are who go OTD but not any more than a kid in Bnei-Brak!

i live amongst them, and I don't know a single Mizrachi, Dati-Leumi family that has an OTD child, but I find that practically all the Charedie family have at least one or two that went off without going to the army!

Charedim call themselves "charedim" because they say that they are more religious and closer to the RBS"O than all other denominations.
The point of my blog is, is to put that to rest!

But there are differences:
Chilonim as a group don't have a policy not defending their country! Chilonim as a group work and contribute to the country. Chilonim as a group take pride in their country.
Charedim believe that they are above everyone else, including other frum communities, because they supposedly learn Torah, and that Torah refines them
Unfortunately, they are a bunch of liars who don't recognize the country they live and get their benefits from.
They refuse to serve and wants other to defend them and give their lives for them; they desecrate the Torah dictum

They believe that it's only their way that is authentic Judaism,
But authentic Jews care about each other; they have Hakoras Hatoiv for the country they live in. They don't damage the light rail, they don't stop traffic, and if the drivers go out of their cars to talk to them, beat the living daylights out of them

Embedded in your comment is your answer: the MO will ban the molesters, whereas Chardeim not only doesn't ban them but defend them.. Malka Leifer is still being defended; Berland is worshipped after he was found in a compromising position with a married lady. Chaim Walder wrote columns for the Hebrew Yated a week before he blew his brains out, and his books are still sold in Feldheim bookstores.
The Modern Orthodox Great Synagogue of Jerusalem employed Finkelstein as Executive Director. It took the combined efforts of UOJ & other activists constantly hammering at them until they finally terminated him. And look at how the YU hierarchy hypocrites covered up for many molesters, not just when they were active employees but to help them blend into new hunting grounds. Finkelstein is just the tip of the iceberg
