A woman who had allegedly never been given a driver’s license crashed into a mother pushing a stroller, killing a baby boy and injuring another sibling.
Maria CobonGuzman, 20, was allegedly driving a Ford Fusion when she hit a mom pushing her nine-month-old son and five-year-old daughter in a stroller through the parking lot of Kosher grocery store NPGS in Jackson Township, New Jersey, at around 11:55 a.m. Friday, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
The mother and her kids were rushed to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where the little boy was declared dead.
Mrs Rosenberg and the five-year-old are still in hospital but are in stable condition.
Cobon Guzman is facing charges manslaughter, operating a motor vehicle without ever having possessed or been issued a valid driver’s license while involved in a fatal motor vehicle crash, and two counts of assault by auto.
Ariadna Lazaro-Flores, 22, of Toms River, was also charged in connection to the tragedy and faces charges of knowingly engaging in conduct creating a substantial risk of death to another.
Lazaro-Flores was allegedly aware CobonGuzman had never possessed a valid driver’s license in New Jersey or any other state, but still let her drive.
Both CobonGuzman and Lazaro-Flores were taken into custody and moved to Ocean County Jail.
The incident remains under investigation.
Neither the Ocean Township Prosecutor’s Office nor the Jackson Township Police Department immediately responded to requests for comment.
