הנהגות ופסקי חתם סופר

 for ראש השנה

1) The  חיוב of טהרה במקוה before YomTov (ר"ה ט"ז ע"ב) is

only for ערב שלש רגלים and not ערב ר"ה.

2) He made התרת נדרים on  ערב יו"כ and not on ערב ר"ה.

 3) He insisted the חזן say   נקדש, - נעריצך at the end  of the Piyut  דרי מעלה עם דרי  מטה

(Most מחזורים start with ככתוב). To  be מקיים the מצוה דאורייתא  of  ונקדשתי the Chazzan needs to invite (נקדש) the ציבור to  be

מקדש השם.

4) For תשליך all he said was 3x the Pasuk מי אל כמוך

and  no  other תפילות

5) He was מקפיד   not to eat nuts only on Rosh Hashana

(not on the rest of  עשרת ימי תשובה)

SHAVE OFF YOUR BEARD ON ער"ה

The טור (O.Ch. 581) quotes the מדרש .

"The מנהג of the world is that when a person has a court case, he dresses in black, wraps himself in black, and grows his beard, etc.The בני ישראל are different. They dress in white; they wrap themselves in white and shave their beards. ומגלחין זקנם*

 גילוח = shaving not trimming

The words "באהבה וברצון" are added

to the שמונה עשרה and at קידוש when Yom Tov falls on Shabbos.

The מטה משה writes "Yomim Tovim were given on הר סיני.

and were originally accepted forcefully כפה עליהם הר כגיגית.

Shabbos was given in מרה (before מתן תורה) and was

accepted באהבה וברצון with love & favor.

That is the reason why we add באהבה וברצון on Shabbos.

Is it 5787 ה'תשפ"ז or

it is 5952 ה'תתקנ"ב?

According to our calendar, we will be ushering in on Rosh Hashana the year 5787.

Approximately 165 years are missing from our calendar. The correct year might be 5952. (Only 48 more years to the year 6,000)

This issue was addressed by many gedolim, from R Azariya min Ha'adumim  to Rav Shimon Schwab זצ"ל.

In a 1962 essay, Rabbi Shimon Schwab suggested that the 168 years were consciously removed from the Jewish calendar to obscure the date for the coming of Mashiach. However, in 1991, Rav Schwab felt that he had to pull back from his previous position and retract his suggestion.

The מהרש״ל, who was very fond of eating fish, refrained from eating fish on Rosh Hashanah. He reasoned that because he enjoyed fish so much, he avoided it on the יום הדין.

THE HORSES ARE HAPPY

The Brisker Rav זצ"ל once gave a משל of a wagon traveling toward a border. Inside the wagon sat a driver & his young helper transporting goods for a merchant across the border illegally.

Every character in the scene reacted differently as the journey progressed.

From the moment the wagon was loaded, the merchant was trembling. He knew the risk of a tremendous monetary loss if caught.

The smuggler, more seasoned and calculating, did not show fear immediately. But as they approached the border, he leaned forward and quietly signaled the driver. His tension rose; the moment of danger was drawing near.

The wagon driver, seeing the border guards in the distance, began to sweat. His hands shook on the reins. He understood that one wrong move could cost him dearly.

The young helper, oblivious until now, only panicked when the border guards lifted their rifles and pointed them directly at the wagon.

And then there were the horses.

When the wagon was finally stopped at the border, the horses shook their heads, snorted contentedly, and relaxed. They were thrilled. They felt only the physical relief of no longer pulling a heavy load.

They were happy.

Many of us, especially those happy  & jolly Yidden dancing in the streets during עשי"ת, are the נמשל

Some tremble from ר"ח אלול, others start first day סליחות, others on ער"ה & ר"ה, others on עשי"ת others on יו"כ and some are happy go lucky like the horses.

DIP THE POTATO IN THE HONEY- DON'T MAKE A BRACHA

(loud & clear,לשנה טובה ומתוקה-----)

The נטעי גבריאל quotes the אלף המגן ס' תקפ"ג If one has no apples on Rosh Hashanah then he should dip a potato in honey & eat it without making a Bracha (durtng the meal)
