Code Pink rallies to defend Tehran

Amid the confrontation between Iran, the United States and Israel, a coalition of Western activist groups is campaigning under the slogan “No war with Iran,” urging governments to avoid confrontation with Tehran.

Organizations such as CodePink, Democracy Now!, Zeteo and Independent Jewish Voices frame the campaign as a defense of peace and human rights.

According to researcher Rawan Othman of the Jerusalem Center for Foreign Affairs and Security, the stance exposes a deep contradiction:
activists who claim to defend  women’s rights, minorities and democracy are effectively shielding one of the world’s most repressive regimes.

Iran’s regime carries out hundreds of executions each year, violently suppresses protests, discriminates against women and minorities, and finances militant groups across the Middle East.
