Late Night Comedian John Oliver Keeps Bashing Israel

HBO host John Oliver used his platform Sunday night to launch another one-sided assault on Israel, blaming the Jewish state for Gaza’s humanitarian crisis while completely omitting Hamas’s central role in creating and perpetuating the disaster.

In a lengthy Last Week Tonight segment, Oliver began by calling Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a “sh—y magician” for questioning international starvation claims in Gaza.

“What’s happening in Gaza right now is a famine. All the information we have points to that, except for this f—ing guy [Netanyahu] and a few adult junior detectives squinting at each photo of a skeletal child to figure out if they’re the right kind of dying,” Oliver stated.

Oliver slammed U.S. military aid to Israel, saying the country received nearly $18 billion in the first year of the war. He also took a swipe at Trump for calling starving children “very hungry.” While mocking the understatement, he added that it was a rare moment of Trump expressing something resembling empathy.

Despite Oliver’s claims, extensive evidence shows Hamas systematically diverts humanitarian assistance for military purposes. Israeli intelligence reports show that Hamas has diverted up to 25 percent of aid supplies to its fighters or sold them to civilians. By controlling the flow of aid into Gaza, Hamas blocks or diverts supplies that are not under its direct oversight, often imposing heavy “taxes” or fees on aid shipments.

Israel has implemented extensive measures to facilitate aid delivery despite Hamas’s obstruction. Last week, the IDF announced humanitarian pauses (10 a.m.–8 p.m.) in Gaza City, Deir al‑Balah, and Al‑Mawasi, along with secured humanitarian corridors coordinated to expand aid access. The United States and Israel have also backed the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), designed to deliver aid directly to Palestinian civilians while keeping it out of Hamas’s hands.

Most tellingly, Oliver’s 20-minute segment contained no mention of the October 7, 2023 Hamas massacre that triggered this war. Hamas terrorists killed 1,189 people, including 815 civilians, wounded 7,500 others, and took 251 hostages in what has been called the deadliest terrorist attack in Israeli history. Oliver’s segment also completely ignored Hamas’s repeated rejection of ceasefire proposals that could have ended the humanitarian crisis months ago.

But then again, that might have complicated his simplistic narrative.
