The Health Ministry on Wednesday barred the sale of seafood from the Mediterranean Sea after a massive oil spill severely contaminated most of Israel’s coastline and killed wildlife.
The ban covers fish and other marine life sold for consumption. It went into effect immediately and will last until the Health Ministry issues a retraction.
The decision was made “in light of the environmental pollution in the Mediterranean Sea, which has been expressed, among other ways, in the amounts of tar found on the Mediterranean beaches in recent days,” the Health Ministry said.
The ruling was a precautionary measure and there was no definite evidence that eating the fish posed a danger. Samples of marine life had been sent to Agriculture Ministry laboratories to check for contaminants, the Health Ministry said.
Officials notified the fishing community and sellers of seafood.

Twenty ultra-Orthodox arrivals from New York were barred from entering the country today after it was discovered they had used forged permits from the committee that currently approves entry to the country.
The families who arrived on a flight to Israel from New York on Wednesday forged their entry permits and will be deported,.
The 13 members of one of the families were all foreign nationals. The second family had an Israeli mother, a foreign father and six children, Channel 12 reported.
One family of 13, who are not Israeli, will be deported tonight, with another family of seven, in which the mother is Israeli, still under review.
Reports say that Israeli authorities were investigating claims that passengers on an El Al flight from New York, which was later discovered to be carrying 11 travelers infected with the coronavirus, had provided fake test results before boarding the plane.
A woman on the plane claimed that she heard ultra-Orthodox passengers boasting that they had used fake coronavirus tests to get on the flight, Hebrew media reported. Other passengers said that during the flight ultra-Orthodox passengers did not wear masks at times and that the cabin crew did little to encourage them to cover up.
The Health Ministry on Wednesday asked the IDF Home Front Command and the Shin Bet security agency to check if the passengers really did fake the virus tests they had presented before getting on the plane, Channel 12 reported.
El Al, Israel’s national carrier, said in response to the report that all of its flights are handled in accordance with the instructions of various authorities.
“The claims made by passengers were passed on to the acting authorities and we are investigating the claims with the flight crew,” El Al said.
Israel’s land and air gateways have been largely closed since January 25, with Ben Gurion Airport shuttered for all but a few special flights by Israeli airlines to bring back citizens stranded abroad. Health officials are concerned that more contagious strains of the coronavirus could arrive in the country from abroad, as is the case with the so-called British mutation which now accounts for almost all new COVID-19 infections in the country.
Ministers approved early Wednesday the reinstatement of a compulsory quarantine period in special government-run hotels for all those arriving from abroad, a day after the previous regulations on the matter expired.

A new study has revealed that the virus which causes COVID-19 can linger on fabric, such as clothing or upholstery, for up to three days.
Between polyester, a poly-cotton blend and 100% cotton fabrics, the polyester posed the greatest risk, even after 72 hours; on full-cotton samples, the virus lasted one day, while the poly-cotton blend remained contaminated by viral droplets — designed to mimic human saliva — for just six hours.
The breakthrough finding could be especially dangerous when it comes to clothing worn by health-care workers, said Dr. Katie Laird, a microbiologist and author of the study.
If not frequently washed, the fabrics could help transmit the virus from patient to patient.
“When the pandemic first started, there was very little understanding of how long coronavirus could survive on textiles,” said Dr. Laird, a leading infectious disease researcher at De Montfort University in Leicester, United Kingdom.
“Our findings show three of the most commonly used textiles in health care pose a risk for transmission of the virus,” she continued in an interview for the university’s news site. “If nurses and health-care workers take their uniforms home, they could be leaving traces of the virus on other surfaces.”
In terms of sanitizing, researchers also found that soap and scorching hot water — at least 153 degrees Fahrenheit (67 degrees Celsius) — was required to effectively clean 100% cotton fabric, which is commonly used for medical staff uniforms.
Regular household washing machines typically only go up to about 130 degrees on their hottest setting.
The findings suggest that hospital staff should refrain from wearing their uniforms home, according to Dr. Laird, whose study has been submitted to a research journal for publication, pending peer review.
“This research has reinforced my recommendation that all health-care uniforms should be washed on site at hospitals or at an industrial laundry,” she said. “These wash methods are regulated and nurses and health-care workers do not have to worry about potentially taking the virus home.”

An eight year old Chasidic boy on his way to school lost his life this morning after a heartbreaking accident in Williamsburg.
Sources say that Shimon Zev Fried was running to catch his bus just after 8:30 this morning when he was instead struck by the vehicle which pulled away, leaving him lying in the roadway. It appears that the driver of the bus did not see the boy as he ran towards the vehicle and was unaware that he had hit him.
Police said that the driver of an MTA B60 bus was driving on South 5th Street just east of Hooper Street when she noticed something in the roadway and realizing that it was a child, she pulled over to the side of the road. According to ABC News (https://7ny.tv/3bxIY7m), the bus arrived at the accident scene just two minutes after it happened, with the driver phoning dispatch which place the call to 911. The NYPD, Hatzolah and Chesed Shel Emes all responded to the accident and the boy, who had sustained traumatic injuries, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A statement released by MTA Bus Company president Craig Cipriano described the incident as a tragedy.
“Our hearts go out to the child’s family as well as to our colleague driving the B60 bus that came upon the scene and first discovered the horrible aftermath,” said Cipriano. “We are fully cooperating with the NYPD investigation and providing all possible support to the bus operator as she recovers from trauma.”
The driver of the school bus was later located and is cooperating with police at the 90th Precinct. Sergeant Robert Denig of the NYPD’s Highway Patrol’s Collision Investigation Squad said that the difficulty of his team’s work was further exacerbated by the circumstances of this accident.
“It’s always heartbreaking,” said Sergeant Denig. “And yes, when it’s a child, it’s that much more heartbreaking. It’s devastating.”
The Levayeh
A large mass of mourners gathered outside a Brooklyn synagogue on Wednesday evening for the funeral of a 6-year-old boy who was fatally struck by his school bus.
The grief-stricken father of little Shimon Fried remembered his son as a “special child,” as he spoke to relatives, friends and other members of the Orthodox Jewish community in South Williamsburg.
“He wanted to learn and grow,” Shimon’s sobbing father, Malky Fried said in Yiddish.
The crowd of about 200 was brought to tears as the grieving dad recalled how his son, even as a toddler, “always wanted to grow and be better.”
“He is a very holy child,” Fried continued. “He did unusual things for his age.”
“He was like a rabbi… he was a special child.”
The youngster’s grandfather, his school principal and friends of the family also spoke at the hour-long outdoor ceremony on Clymer Avenue near Wythe Avenue.
A group of men were then seen carrying the child’s coffin away, their heads bowed.

The Washington Post’s editorial board has a fixation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The Post’s board has devoted considerable column space to attacking the democratically elected leader of the Jewish state. But the obsession, and frequently unhinged tone, reveals more about the newspaper and its attitudes toward Israel than it does about the Israeli leader.
The Post’s latest blast appeared in a Feb. 17, 2021 editorial titled “Biden delivers a snub to Israel’s Netanyahu—and for good reason.” The Post hailed the fact that “during the first four weeks of the new U.S. administration,” President Joe Biden “spoke by phone with the leaders of virtually every major U.S. ally, along with those of Russia and China. But he did not call Mr. Netanyahu” until Feb. 16.
The Post claimed that if the belated call was a snub, it was justified, as “Mr. Netanyahu has a long history of allying himself with U.S. Republicans and of seeking to aid GOP presidential candidates.” Netanyahu, the Post asserts, had the temerity to travel to “Washington to endorse Mr. Trump’s soon-to-be stillborn Middle East peace plan” on the eve of an election. Even worse, the Post argues, Netanyahu has noted that he has “disagreements on Iran, on the Palestinian issue” with the new administration. How dare he!
Accordingly, the Post says, “striking a measure of distance from the Israeli leader is a wise move,” particularly since he is facing upcoming elections.

A 22-year-old resident of Yitzhar, a community situated in the heart of Samaria near Shechem, fended off a terrorist threatening to stab him with a knife and succeeded in escaping from him.
Binyamin Cohen, who got married only a few months ago, was waiting at a bus stop near Yitzhar on Wednesday morning when he was attacked by the Arab terrorist. Cohen, a son of one of the heads of Yeshivat Bet El, succeeded in pushing the Arab away and then confronted him with his bare hands, after which he succeeded in running away.
A security camera captured the incident. Note the Palestinian cars passing by (white numberplates) without intervening to save Cohen from his attacker.
The potential victim backed off quick took an aggressive defensive position threw his arms defensively keeping attacker at bay. Leg kicks to attackers opposite side of weapon slowed attacker, giving him time to escape. Well defended. It pays to learn defensive fighting skills and practice them diligently. I dont know if this man has any training, but the more you do train defensive fighting tactics the less likely you are to be a victim.

Professor Daniel Shepshelovich, deputy director of Ichilov Hospital's Internal Medicine 9 department, warned that those who refuse to vaccinate may aid in the creation of a worse, more virulent mutation.
In an interview with Israel Hayom, Shepshelovich, Prof. Shepshelovich said, "At any moment, a mutation may be created which is even worse and more contagious, which will harm everyone. A pregnant woman died, young people are being harmed, and the concern is right here, right now."
"Those who do not vaccinate need to know that they are empowering the virus, because every time the virus divides it can create a mutation, a variant. Most mutations aren't problematic, but when the virus changes tens of thousands of times, and that's the case with coronavirus, then you have mutations which are more contagious or more virulent, and then the virus causes even more harm.
"Therefore, the desire to prevent the virus from dividing and reproducing and developing more versions is in itself a reason to get vaccinated. Bottom line, I am truly begging anyone who is on the fence to trust the entire medical profession, which knows the vaccine, believes in the vaccine, knows the disease, and is warning that it is very dangerous. Go now and get vaccinated."

Incendiary rapper Azealia Banks announced her engagement to artist Ryder Ripps by posting a photo on Instagram of a ring with a menorah on it and writing “I’m Jewish now. MAZEL TOV BITCHES!” in the caption.
Some social media users took issue with the proclamation, implying that Banks could not assume a Jewish identity by marrying a Jewish person or that wearing a symbol of Judaism was disrespectful. Banks — who is known for getting into feuds with public figures on Twitter — shot back.
Here’s one representative exchange, which ends with Banks declaring, “I’m a jewcy diva now.”
In another exchange, Banks likened her connection to Judaism to the gender identity of transgender people, in an analogy that some decried as transphobic.
Banks is no stranger to controversy. In 2016, during one of her high profile Twitter rants, she directed racial epithets at Pakistani-English pop star Zayn Malik and lost her slot at a U.K. music festival.
Ripps is a 34-year-old art director and conceptual artist who has not made a Jewish identity part of his public persona. His father Rodney, also an artist, once showed some of his art in an exhibit at New York City’s Jewish Museum on “Jewish Themes.”

The Knesset on Wednesday approved a bill allowing the Health Ministry to transfer information on unvaccinated individuals to local authorities, the Education Ministry's Director General, and welfare authorities.
The bill, which passed its first reading on Monday afternoon, passed its second and third readings on Wednesday, and is now law.
The purpose of the bill is to allow local authorities to encourage residents to receive the vaccine, by turning to them personally and taking other actions which Health Minister Director General Professor Hezi Levi will define.
Under the bill, the Health Ministry may share the names, identification numbers, addresses, and phone numbers of citizens eligible to receive the vaccine who have not yet done so.
In addition, the information will be transferred to the authorities if they actively request it and present a plan for encouraging vaccination among the population included in the database.
However, the bill emphasizes that personal information may not be used to pressure citizens into receiving the vaccination.

A 13-year-old was allegedly raped multiple times at a Utah school for wayward teens where Paris Hilton also testified she was abused and sexually assaulted.
In an exclusive interview with DailyMailTV, Aaron Ross, 33, claimed he was forced to give a staff member oral sex when he was 13, was heavily drugged, denied food and locked in a 6ft-square cement 'isolation room' for days on end at Provo Canyon School, south of Salt Lake City, Utah.
DailyMailTV has also obtained a 2013 police report detailing Ross' claims, and data of 911 calls obtained via the Freedom of Information Act which reveal dozens of child abuse and sexual assault reports at the school's two campuses from 2012 to 2019.
The teen treatment center, where a 12-month stay reportedly costs up to $300,000, has faced previous accusations of beating, drugging and sexually abusing its clients.
Paris Hilton, 39, slammed the institution in her 2020 documentary "This Is Paris," and this month gave tearful testimony to Utah lawmakers that she was 'verbally, mentally, and physically abused on a daily basis' there aged 16.

This clown who calls him/herself Levine infamously forced COVID-19 patients out of hospitals and into nursing homes and long-term care facilities, exacerbating the spread of the virus to the elderly and infirm, among whom it proved to be most lethal. Levine repeatedly downplayed this criticism, arguing it was a necessary part of the state’s coronavirus response, and that COVID-19 was already present in those facilities.
While the draconian treatment of local Pennsylvania governments and the COVID-19 nursing home scandal should be enough to call Dr. Levine’s nomination into question, Levine’s commitment to imposing a radical gender ideology on our nation’s children should perhaps be of even greater concern to the Senate HELP Committee.
Most alarmingly, Dr. Levine has advocated for sex changes for pre-pubertal people, otherwise known as “children.”

A tragedy that befell a Jerusalem family this week and resonated throughout the country should serve as a cautionary tale. A pregnant mother of four was admitted last Tuesday to the COVID-19 intensive-care unit of Hadassah Medical Center-Ein Kerem with respiratory problems.
By Saturday night, despite the best efforts of doctors in various fields, as well as a team of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) experts, Osnat Ben Shitrit went into multi-system failure. Her 30-week fetus, also infected with coronavirus, was delivered by emergency caesarian section but didn’t survive.
Ben Shitrit’s bitter end struck a national nerve. The thought of an Israeli “everywoman”—with little children and another on the way—having her life come to such a halt is a terrifying proposition.
It’s particularly scary right now, with at least 50 pregnant women currently hospitalized with COVID-19, some in serious condition.

Passengers of an El Al rescue flight were asked to enter isolation after it became clear that 11 passengers had allegedly forged certificates that they had undergone coronavirus tests.
"They did what they wanted. They did not wear masks for many hours, stood close to our seats praying or having conversations and no one did anything," said one passenger in a conversation with Mako. "We turned to the flight attendants' staff, we asked them to make sure they wore masks, but they reassured us that everything was fine that we were just panicking."
In the last few hours, the Ministry of Health has involved the Home Front Command and the GSS in an attempt to check whether the passengers have indeed forged the tests they presented.
El Al responded: "All flights operated by the company are carried out in accordance with the guidelines of the various authorities. El Al is careful to maintain the health of passengers and all crews on the ground and in the air. El Al is currently developing a concept of 'safe flight' in which tests will be performed before, during, and after boarding flight. The passengers' claims were forwarded to the operational authorities and we are investigating the allegations with the flight crew and with the station."
