The Dead Terrorists

One of the men who neutralized the terrorists in today’s deadly attack in Jerusalem was a young ultra-Orthodox man who had received his firearm license only about a year ago.

Six people were murdered and 12 others injured in a Monday morning shooting attack at the Ramot Junction in Jerusalem.

Twelve of the victims were evacuated to hospitals, among them seven whose condition is serious: two women aged around 50, a woman of 35, and men aged 26, 50, 63, and 70. Two victims are in moderate condition and three were lightly injured by broken glass. Several people were treated for shock.

Of those murdered, three of the victims were in their 30s, and the fourth was in his 50s.

The terrorists opened fire at a Line 62 bus which was standing in a traffic jam, and at a hitchhiking stop full of people. Seven people were evacuated to hospitals for medical treatment, among them one person in critical condition and four people in serious condition.

According to eyewitnesses, the terrorists boarded the bus and began shooting at the passengers' heads from close range, using automatic weapons. An unconfirmed report said the terrorists boarded disguised as inspectors.

Two terrorists were shot dead by a haredi IDF soldier and an armed civilian haredi yeshiva student, and police forces are conducting extensive searches of the area, cordoning it off and searching for additional terrorists. Large numbers of police forces are at the scene. It is believed that the terrorists used a Carlo submachine gun, manufactured in Judea and Samaria.

Following the terror attack, the crossings near Jerusalem were closed, and Palestinian Authority Arabs were blocked from using them to exit or enter pre-1967 Israel. The Central Command, Israel Police and ISA are clarifying the details and identities of the terrorists.

Israel Police stated: "Following the shooting, the access roads to the scene have been closed off. Large numbers of police officers under command of the district commander are at the scene of the incident."

The terrorists came from a village near Ramallah. Following the terror attack, the IDF surrounded four villages near Jerusalem: Qatanna, Biddu, Beit 'Anan, and Bayt Duqu.

The IDF confirmed: "Following the shooting attack at Ramot junction earlier today (Monday), IDF soldiers were dispatched to the area and are searching the area for suspects in cooperation with the Israel Police."

"Simultaneously, IDF soldiers are currently encircling several areas on the outskirts of Ramallah to thwart terrorism and strengthen the defense effort."

Avi Swissa, a United Hatzalah EMT, said, "I was driving at the junction and I heard gunfire. This is a very serious scene. Some of the injured are unconscious. Large numbers of United Hatzalah forces are acting at the scene to provide initial medical aid to the injured."

MDA paramedic Nadav Tayeb added, “We arrived at the scene in large numbers immediately after receiving the report of shooting casualties. When we got there, we saw people lying on the road unconscious, near the sidewalk and a bus stop. There was widespread destruction at the scene, shattered glass on the ground, and great commotion. We began providing medical treatment to the injured, and we are continuing at this time to treat the wounded and evacuate them to hospitals.”

MDA paramedic Fadi Dekaidek described: “This was a very severe scene. We arrived with large forces and immediately began triaging the injured and providing medical treatment to several casualties with varying degrees of injury, including those in serious and critical condition. The wounded were lying on the road and sidewalk near a bus stop, some of them unconscious. We continue to evacuate the injured to hospitals quickly while providing life-saving medical care.”

This is a developing story.
