Dozens of black Israelites who claim they - and not Jews - are the true descendants of the biblical Hebrews descend on Capitol Hill for a protest

A group of men known as the Black Israelites staged a protest on Capitol Hill on Tuesday.
Dozens of members of the sect that is considered an extremist hate group gathered near the U.S. Capitol on Tuesday.
They were seen dressed out in their traditional regalia and carrying megaphones, though it is unclear what it was they were protesting.
The Hebrew Israelites are considered a ‘racist and black supremacist’ movement by the Southern Poverty Law Center, an organization that tracks hate speech in America.

According to Hebrew Israelite philosophy, African Americans, not Jews, are God’s true chosen people.
The Hebrew Israelites believe that blacks are the real descendants of the biblical Hebrews.
That is why they shun the term ‘Jews’ or ‘Jewish’ even though they frequently are seen walking around with Jewish insignia on their clothing, including the six-sided Star of David.
Hebrew Israelites have even shown hostility toward Jews and other whites who are referred to ‘devilish imposters’ and adherents of ‘Satan.’
The group’s members are normally seen on street corners with megaphones or large loudspeakers and microphones in and around Washington, D.C., Baltimore, and New York City.
The movement has expanded its presence in the United States, with churches sprouting up in Florida, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, and Oregon.
There has even been a split within the Hebrew Israelite movement, with the mainstream Israelite Church breaking with the more extreme Israelite School of Universal Practical Knowledge.
YouTube video clips circulating on the internet show street confrontations that are largely nonviolent.
The clips show preachers dressed in robes harassing passersby who are usually white.
In May 2016, an Israelite group posted a YouTube clip showing a white man crying as a group of preachers runs down the litany of crimes committed against blacks, Native Americans, and Hispanics.
Suffice to say, these groups are rejected by mainstream Jewish organizations since they also espouse ugly anti-Semitic conspiracy theories.
Israelite preachers are seen on YouTube calling the Holocaust a ‘joke’, praising Adolf Hitler, and calling for the deaths of whites, Jews, gays, and lesbians.
Among their more provocative tactics are hanging effigies of the Virgin Mary and Santa Claus in public.
According to the group’s ideology, ‘every white person who doesn't get killed by Christ when he returns is going into slavery.’
