First of all Yerushalyim including Meah Shearim was part of the original "Partition Plan." So the entire UN granted that to the State of Israel. The British walked away from the Mandate, period. The Arabs went to war, and if they would have won, they would have taken the Jews with Amrom Blau and murdered and raped them as they did in 1929. R' Amrom Blau should have thanked Hashem that the Zionists won that war.
Second of all, the community of Meah Shearim was so tiny and had no significance in any decisions made by Ben Gurion. Actually if you look at the UN partition plan, they have a point - under the 1947 plan, Yerushalayim would be an international city governed by a UN official.
