You can’t make this up. The Satmar Rebbe, Rabbi Joel Teitelbaum, was rescued from the Holocaust in 1944 on the Kastner train — a mission organized by the Zionist Rudolf Kastner that saved 1,684 Jews from Hungary. Without Kastner’s negotiations, the Rebbe would not have survived.
And yet, Satmar Hasidim mark the 21st of Kislev (Kuf Alef Kislev) as a day of celebration, while simultaneously pushing a revisionist narrative that they were the ones who rescued him. That’s not just false — it’s a grotesque distortion of history.
Now comes the ultimate insult: Rabbi Aron Teitelbaum invites a virulent anti‑Israel politician, Mayor‑elect Mamzar’ani, to the very seuda commemorating this rescue. Think about that. A day that exists only because of a Zionist’s courage is being celebrated by honoring someone who despises Israel.
The hypocrisy is staggering. The irony is unbearable. And the tragedy is that Holocaust memory is being twisted to serve an agenda that spits in the face of the truth.
After the Six Day War in 1967, someone told the Kloizenberger Rebbe z”l that Rabbi Yoel Teitelbaum, the Satmar Rebbe z”l, had prohibited visiting the Kotel — because it was captured by Zionists.
The Kloizenberger Rebbe’s reply was cutting:
“If that’s the case, then one shouldn’t visit the Satmar Rebbe either — since he himself was rescued by a Zionist!”

DeleteWe who grew up in the 60's & 70"s remember this very well!
From what I've read, Satmar has revised history and now the "true" version is that the kastner train only succeeded because the Rebbe was aboard so really, the Rebbe in his "magnaminity" saved the Zionists, not the other way around.
ReplyDeleteHere's the true evil Satmar accomplished. On January 1, Mamzerdani will start announcing "anti-Zionist" policies. Shuls will be told they cannot violate "international law" so no Israeli guest speakers, no Israeli-themed programs, no Israeli flags on public display, etc. And when the Jewish community complains he will point at Satmar and say "I asked them and they said Zionism is against Judaism so I'm just trying to keep you on the derech."
Just wait until the Chabaskers compete with each other to get ZM at their menorah lighting, and at the tomb of their Rebbuh.
