Wolfson Yeshiva held an emergency assembly after three students, including two Kol Torah alumni, declared plans to enlist in the IDF, sparking sharp rebuke from the Rosh Yeshiva.
Wolfson Yeshiva, a highly esteemed haredi yeshiva in Jerusalem, was struck by turmoil over the past day.
According to Channel 13's Yoely Brim, three young students from the yeshiva announced their decision to enlist in the IDF, leading to an emergency assembly at the establishment on Tuesday.
Two of the students are expected to join the IDF's "Kokod" program for programming and development, and another student will probably enlist in a combat unit.
The announcement surprised many in the yeshiva, among the reasons being that two of the young men were alumni of Kol Torah, one of the oldest and most respected yeshivas in the haredi world.
During the emergency assembly, the Dean, Rabbi Daniel Wolfson, stood before the students and expressed opposition to the move.
The rabbi claimed that there are no programs in the IDF that could protect a haredi lifestyle and added that he feels great sorrow and pain for the students' decision to leave the yeshiva.
For a long time people wondered - why were Jews in Europe so much smarter than Chrisians? The answer was simple - whenever the Jewish community found a smart and dedicated boy, they found him a smart and dedicated girl, got them married and they had lots of kids. Whenever the Chrisians found a smart and dedicated boy, they sent him to the monastery. With the girls, it was to a convent. While Jews were breeding in positive traits, the Chrisians were breeding it out.
ReplyDeleteNow the Chareidim are following the Chrisian example. Are you capable of critical thinking? Do you want complex answers to complex problems of faith? Do you feel a sense of duty to the Jewish country you live in? Well get out of our community now! Those kinds of things are anti-Torah!
And you go beserk every day on this blog
ReplyDeleteYou are saying devorim shel taam.
ReplyDeleteBut consider the following: Being the smartest person in the room (or the "sharpest knife in the drawer') doesn't get you many friends.
In other words: keep the complex problems of faith to yourself and you'll lead a happy life, while marrying off your grandchildren and get a Brocho under the Chuppah.
Devorim shel taam elyon.
I believe that it should be considered treason to speak out against the concept of serving in the IDF.
