When a child tragically drowns, they did not "pass away suddenly". They drowned. That should be written.
Why? Because while some accidents will always happen, others may be prevented by taking safety precautions.

Or maybe the family does not want to publicize what is an entirely private tragedy and asked the news sites to keep it that way

DeleteDiscussing any sort of tragedy can save lives. This would seem to be a great merit to the deceased
