Chavie Weisberger reveals what it was like to grow up as a Chasidic Jew in an extreme branch of an ultra-Orthodox Jewish community in New York started by her own grandfather, R' Moshe Wolfson, founder of the Sect, Amunas Yisrael (Moonies). I have a friend who is a "moonie" more on that another time.
In episode 240 of "On the Edge" with Andrew Gold podcast, she talks of some aspects of her ultra orthodox Jewish wedding, and losing her kids .
The reason I decided to post the above video of Chavie Weisberger's story is because of a recent encounter that I had here in Israel with a member of the extremist Chassidic sect that follow the Toldos Ahron Rebbes and who are referred to as "arrelich."
The "aarilich" are extreme anti-Zionists, and they are the ones that yell "nazi" on firefighters that come to put out fires in their communities and throw stones on police who return their lost children. The Todos Ahron Rebbe is a leader of a cult that worship him. Hence their total disrespect of other Jews and even other Chassidic sects. I became pretty close to one of them who confided to me what really goes on behind the scenes. I will one day write about that, it is truly fascinating. He was telling me how he met his wife and a little bit of their relationship, sounds a lot like Chavie's story.
The story of Chavie Weisberger is her own unique story with her very own experiences and is really not a reflection of every Chassidic family, but what I found very telling was that rabbonim would make fundraisers that raised over a million dollars to take children away from a mother because she doesn't follow their values! I find that very disturbing.
It reminds me of the Yossele Shumacher Story in the 1960's when a grandfather decided to kidnap his own grandchild, decided to rip a child from his mother, and shipped him off to another country because he wanted the child to be a shomer shabbos. Mind you, this grandfather brought up his daughter the mother of this child as a chiloinie, he later became frum. I don't care what his reasoning was, you don't rip children away from their mother, period!
You may disagree with Chavie's lifestyle, her values, but one has to respect that she is a mother and as a mother she has the same entitlements to bring up her children as her ex-husband. One could argue, well, they married, with both on the same page, hashkafa wise, and she is changing the script. To that I say, well just too bad. When you get divorced, they both have the same rights to bring up the children the way they see fit. The mother is still a mother, and she should have custodial rights and if she is the one who changed the rules, then so be it; this is what happens when there is a divorce.

ReplyDeletestandard left wing propaganda. being mad at the ahreles have nothing to do with this
ReplyDeleteBoruch Hashem there are tens of thousands of people, men and women of all size and shapes and backgrounds, who did the exact opposite.
ReplyDeleteHer father was my 7th grade Rebbe he was a very nice person could not hurt a fly he's not around anymore
ReplyDeleteA fascinating interview with keen insights. I am amazed at the current charisma of Moshe Wolfson. I knew him when he was a middle school rebbi- I think fourth grade in Torah Vodaath- and he was a gentle man but not a particularly gifted lamdan and quite ordinary and not particularly creative or original. And yet he has become a real manig. My sense is that his simplicity , and piety and his lack of intellectual gravitas attracted followers

ReplyDeleteok but the wolfson family also has a right to be heard as does her ex (btw what does rav moshe wolfson shlita, who is 90 plus have to do if his granddaughter had a bad marrige etc?, he just a big name that is being tied in for sensationalism etc...)he also has a side to this story that is being ignored by the media..."it takes two to tango" as the saying goes...everything with a grain of salt applies to frum and secular people alike...its not so simple to traumatize children and remove them from school etc...
"Mind you, this grandfather brought up his daughter the mother of this child as a chiloinie, he later became frum."
you are wrong about yossele schumaker. his grandfather was a breslover chossid name reb nachman shtarkes ztzl. he was not a bt! what happened was that he was imprisoned in a soviet prison and thus had no control over who his daughter married. after he was released the family moved to israel in the late 1940's-early 1950's...she married a communist...in fact yossele's communist father let reb nachman shtarkes ztzl put little yossele in a charedishe cheder and he wasn't anti religous...it was only when yosseles father decided that he wanted to move back to russia that reb nachman took action...

ReplyDeleteYou can twist the story any way you want, the facts remain. Nachman Shtarkas kidnapped his grandchild and shipped him off with that giyores to the USA, that's kidnapping according to the law.
petty squabbles for attention
ReplyDeleteYour comment that Yossele Shumacher's Grandfather "was a breslover chossid" makes a lot sense since Berlov is also into rape and murder.Harav Ha'Goen Berland!

Breslov is Breslov. Berland is not Breslov.

ReplyDeleteTell us we are all waiting with bated breaths. In what way was Yossele Shumacher's grandfather different than the rest of the Zionists that kidnapped the Yemenite children? They should have locked him up for life.
To: Anonymous 11:22 AM
DeleteThe Yemenite kidnapping was for cash. In what way can you compare this with the Yossele story ? This is plain absurdity.
You are just distorting facts and history to adjust them to your twisted anti-zionist false narrative.
"...take children away from their mother because she doesn't follow their values"
ReplyDeleteAnd what if she doesn't follow their religion do you still stand with her? Just curious how far you go.
5:49 Yes, absolutely
ReplyDeleteWhat if the situation was reverse, if the mother became frum and the children were not, what would you say then?
Minor Children belong to the mother
1;04
ReplyDeleteKidnapping is kidnapping, makes no difference if its for cash or for religious reasons.
People always have a "reason" why they kidnap, but at the end of the day, if they kidnap a child for any reason, the kidnapper should rot in prison for life, and that includes the "breslevor kidnapper"
'Kidnapping is kidnapping'
ReplyDelete'Minor Children belong to the mother'
Progressivism with a sleight of hand?
Who decides that? Where does your value system come from?
Is murder murder? All situations?
Interesting, the satmar rebbe was against the kidnapping and refused to have any connection
ReplyDeleteNot to take away from the mother . Just to let the father keep his children. Mother doesn’t have more rights than father.
ReplyDelete7:35
ReplyDeleteMinor children belong to the mother not the father.
neturei karta/edah haredis has always had a strange and fascinating history. whether it was having an openly homosexual baal teshuva as their go between with the british and Jordanian governments in pre state Palestine ( the poet dr. yy dahan, who was killed outside the old shaarei zedek hospital building which now houses kan news. you can read some of his more graphic poems and stories online), to having an ex dancer turned giyoress from the Parisian nightclubs marry reb amram blau zl (rus bas david). their history is quite interesting. one of their heads was reb leible weisfish, a yerushalmi yid who was an expert in the writings of Friedrich Nietzsche. Ironically, isser harel, the mossad chief who cracked the yossele schumacher case, had semicha from the great volozhin yeshiva! (the mossad even boasts about this on their website).
ReplyDeleteWhoa ! What a character assassinating post
DeleteDahan WAS a G** prior to his teshuva.
But He changed . He still didn't care for women. So what? He became totally celibate , didn't 'identify' as an alphabet &devoted himself for the Jewish people. He therefore ought to be a potential role model for all those who claim their disinterest in the opposite sex ! Instead of parading & flaunting their travesties !
Remarkably or unsurprisingly, the very same phonies who preach tolerance incessantly nowadays for every unabashed evildoer, will turn on a dime
The rest of the post is suspect as well

Storm The Bastille. What impudence
ReplyDeletefor the inverse
Yidden building;skimping for generations edifying a ever rising pedestal for eg Harel & of his ilk
hoping towards a very different destiny
The onus therefore is to be all the higher, more inexcusable (irrelevant how frequent the occurrence ),and deeper stab in the vitals
the point is dahan had a baal teshuva complex and a chip on his shoulder, so he became a "kanoi", sort of like the "flipouts" of today, who grow up modern and become extreme haredi to the point of madness. btw dahan never really dropped his homo ways. he had an arab lover. he even wrote poetry in which he questions his sincerity in going to the kosel to daven or to ogle the arab youth...he even wrote a poem questioning rav zonnenfeld ztzls lack of taiveh for men...look if you google his writings and poetry it is quite graphic and you find what im talking about...no point on elaborating further...stop being matzdik a pervert who happens to align with your shitah and hashkofoshs. the edah haredis is guilty of the very things they accused rav kook ztzl of doing, they just happen to have the proper charedi hashkofa, so one quesions them critcally. btw the chazon ish ztzl said that if someone has a shitah, the he will end up being oiver all the aveiros chamuros for "the sake of the torah".
ReplyDeleteAt the end of the day she got married to him and then she was the one who decided to make a major change to the status quo. I feel worse for him. Imagine being in his situation where you get married to someone with certain understandings and then she changes everything completely regardless of her upbringing. It isnt his fault.
ReplyDelete6:56
ReplyDeleteIts not his fault but for the first 6 years he gave up on his kids building his new family but then the cultists got a hold of him, raised a million dollars to get the kids, to teach others trying to get out, that they wont succeed.
"Ironically, isser harel, the mossad chief who cracked the yossele schumacher case, had semicha from the great volozhin yeshiva! (the mossad even boasts about this on their website)."
ReplyDeleteFrom what I have seen, that is incorrect. You may have been thinking of his father.
"Isser Harel stood out in his personality and his capabilities. He was ordained as a Rabbi in the Volozhin Yeshiva, and read classical and romantic literature, detective books, and Zionist literature. In pre-state Palestine, he gained a profession as floorer, and then joined the state's security services".
