Rabbi Benzion Mutzafi, a leading Sephardic rabbi, on Thursday morning slammed COVID-19 deniers, saying that "their blood is on their own heads."
The incident occurred when one of Rabbi Mutzafi's students questioned, "How will those who incite and instigate against vaccines fare when they get to Heaven?"
In his answer, quoted by Kikar Hashabbat, Rabbi Mutzafi said, "He will sit with the murderers and criminals, since with the propaganda that he spread, he prevented innocent people from being vaccinated, and because of that they became ill and were harmed for their entire lives, suffering difficult and complicated issues."
"We also know hundreds of people, personally, who avoided the vaccine and died young," he added. "Their blood is on the heads of the propagandists. May G-d bless His nation with peace."
Last month, Rabbi Mutzafi claimed that Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett is "a known liar," but added that, "The Holy Torah commands us to listen to the doctors and to get vaccinated."
Wow, a sane solitary voice amongst all the insane disinformation.
ReplyDeleteMost experts in the field are saying to get vaccinated. People are entitled to go against the majority, it's a free country.
But if in 5 years they are proven wrong AND people have listened to them AND subsequently died from Covid, then it's not good....
Perhaps anti-vaxxers should consider not saying anything at all about Covid and hence they won't be complicit.
The Rabbi must make a differentiation between the anti vaxxer to a covid denier.
ReplyDeleteClaims that covid does not exist are almost not found amongst anyone.
Takes balls of steel for this rabbi to make such a statement that "He will sit with the murderers and criminals, since with the propaganda that he spread, he prevented innocent people from being vaccinated, and because of that they became ill and were harmed for their entire lives, suffering difficult and complicated issues."

This Rabbi doesn't have his own technical knowledge on the subject. He merely chooses whom to believe and thinks that his judgement is better than the judgement of those who have chosen to believe otherwise. On that basis he states that those people are complicit of murder. That seems rather arrogant, doesn't it?
If 9999 doctors tell you to take a eg medicine or you will die, and 1 doctor tells you if you take the medicine you will die from the medicine, who should you believe?
DeleteI am not a covid denier. But I do have questions, such as which old drugs alleviate and cure covid at less risk and expense, and will future strains of covid be less virulent. The world of science used to answer these questions. Now for such impertinence, people like me are treated like Galileo was treated by the Catholic church back in the day. Science, like Judaism used to be a debate, punctuated with hard won certainties. I will take my chances with science in this world and in the world to come described with such certainty by Rabbi Mutzafi.I have been vaccinated, but my faith in scientists and in rabbis who lend them their imprimatur is badly shaken.
