R' Zalman Leib Teitelbaum, Satmar Rebbe and leader of the "zalonim" managed to get a 102 year-old lady to write him a $250,000.00 check towards a new Satmar wedding hall in Lakewood.
The lady is Rebbetzin Blier the widow of R' Aron Bleir z"l, and she is also the daughter of R' Yonasan Shteif z"l....
The Satmar Rebbe sat and listened how Mrs Bleir told stories about the connection of her father R' Yonasan Shteif and Satmar. The new Hall will be named for her father.

Why is it necessary to insinuate that the Satmar Rebbe "managed to 'get' a 102 year old woman to write him a $250,000 check", as if there was some undue influence involved. Rebbetzin Bleir has been blessed with cognitive abilities that would be unusual in a 30 year old. Indeed, just two years ago she undertook a journey to Israel without anyone accompanying her on the flight
ReplyDeleteMrs. Bleir, may she be well and healthy wished to endow the construction of a wedding hall that will provide for Chassinos at an absurdly low cost. She has done so out of her generosity of spirit and in honor of the memory of her saintly father, who enjoyed a mutual admiration relationship with the Satmar Rebbe, Reb Yoil Teitelbaum.
The partial video clip that DIN has provided shows Mrs. Bleir in the home of her grandson, Reb Yisroel Bleir, who informed me that she was not merely present at this last Pesach seder; she in fact was in charge of it. She is shown in the video to be among her independently wealthy son and grandchildren who are quite capable of making sure that she won't be taken advantage of.
If DIN wishes to make a smarmy comment, it might note that when large sums of money are involved it becomes "kosher" for a Satmar Rebbe to sit at one table with a women without the employment of a mechitzah.
