How you can transform old bottles and jars into vases and decor - with stunning results

Thousands of DIY enthusiasts around Australia are embracing a new trend to transform old glass bottles and jars into stunning chic vases.

Perth mum Carolina demonstrated the easy process in a TikTok video on December 17, which has since been viewed more than 88,000 times.

The craft project involves painting the jars using acrylic paint and adding jute twine once dried for a rustic look.

The end result will be sure to fill any dull corner and become a decorative feature point in the home.

In the video Carolina first cleaned the surface of a passata sauce bottle using a damp paper towel to remove any stickers and barcodes.

Using a brush she painted two layers onto the jar to ensure the glass could not be seen.

To make it seem like the jar is made from ceramic, she mixed baking soda into a bowl of paint beforehand.

The abrasive texture of the baking soda will create a rough surface on the jar rather than a smooth finish.

Those painting on a budget may wish to consider purchasing small sample paint pots from Bunnings in order to decorate multiple vases different colours.

Once the paint had dried, Carolina wrapped the twine around the glass jar.

Victorian local Brittney also praised the simple method by sharing images to the Kmart Inspired Homes Facebook group - which has more than 334,000 members.

'I whipped these three up this morning and I'm so happy with them! Recommended for a cheap and easy idea!' she wrote.

Both Brittney and Carolina painted the glass jars white and the end result looked stunning.

Others both on Facebook and TikTok described the DIY tactic a 'brilliant' and the end results as 'gorgeous'.

'So beautiful!' one person said online, another added: 'Trying it this weekend!'

The transformed vases can also be used as pots for plants to brighten up the garden or can be used to store artificial foliage inside the house.

TIPS WHEN PAINTING THE VASES

Both glass and old ceramic pots can be used

Use sample paint pots from Bunnings Warehouse to stay on a budget and choose a variety of colours

Any paint can be used as long as it's water-based

Use as much bi-carb soda as needed to create the desired texture

Paint the inside, outside and the bottom of the vase too

Make sure sure all the paint is dry before adding on another layer of paint, otherwise it will peel off

Add as many layers as desired - the more paint that is added the more authentic it will look
