The yearbooks are alter nayess. There is a vain machshayfa in Frankel's shul, East 21st I-J, who as far back as the 1980s was calling all around town to get various yearbooks to snoop for pictures of girls redd to her sons. She only bothered to look if the girls' parents were super rich. And it's due to her & her like minded baalabustas that the shmaltzy Hungarian girls school Machon was really bent out of shape that the girls shouldn't look too glamorous on picture day. Julie Oelbaum & Yanofsky didn't want any of the maydelach to have an unfair advantage with those predatory feline shviggers.
So you say that a date should be arranged without the boy knowing that she's very overweight and he be hit over the head by surprise when he sees her and then reject her. You think that would be better. I'm not sure. Whether he should care or not, the fact is he cares. So what do you suggest? Overweight is actually a minus. Since she has overwhelmingly more pluses so that will go into the equation and someone will want her for those reasons. But I don't see the advantage in trying to conceal that which will so very soon become known.
Julie Oelbaum is attracted to money like a moth to a light bulb. If the "donations" $$$ were big enough then just about any rule gets bent as he looks the other way. It is true though that he made himself git meshiga over the yearbook poses.
Social media solved this problem ages ago. The best cat-fishers post pics from years ago. And then you just need your imagination on adding a few inches and wrinkles.
The frum magazines and newspapers don't allow pictures of women because it is not modest. How is it modest to have pictures of young women floating around for shiddushim?
The muthers should ask a shayleh before they decide to set such 'un-z'neeut' standaeds.

ReplyDeleteFor the others who like fat girls, the picture showing the fat will not be a deterrent.
