ReplyDeleteFor real? A Kiddush Hashem? Let's reflect for a moment. Joseph rejected the advances of Potifar's wife, and thus he earned the title "Tzadik". But was Joseph really right? Didn't he realized that he was committing a grave Chillul Hashem By spurning her? She spread the rumor that Jews, Ivrim , as she called them, are savage beasts, rapists. Everybody believed her and Joseph went to prison for twelve years. Shame, shame. Joseph disgraced the Jewish people all for sake of his "fruminish". He wasted the opportunity of making a Kiddish Hashem of becoming known as a great Lothario.
ReplyDeleteWhy was Joseph put to such a test? Rashi says that Joseph wanted to make a "good impression" on the Goyim, a Kiddush Hashem you might say. He carefully groomed himself in order to gain esteem in the eyes of his master. Instead he called attention to himself and thus caught the eye of his master's wife.
Naomi Herman had a number of options: She could have chosen not to attend the Jimmy Fallon show. Avairah Goreres Avayrah. Because she chose to attend a non-koasher show, she found herself faced with her dilemma.
At the point when she discovered that she held the winning number, Ms. Herman still had the choice of not rising and claiming the "prize".
Even after she was presented with the Christ6mas sweater, she still had a final choice. She could have announced as I would have. that my grandfather was killed in a pogrom in Kiev on Christmas day. His body hung from a Christmas tree during the holiday while the gentiles who passed by jeered and mocked.
I respect the rights of others to celebrate their holidays as they wish, but to me a Christmas tree and other similar holiday ornaments represent a dishonor of the memory of my martyred grandfather.
Ms. Herman could have asserted a similar claim, but again she missed the opportunity to redeem herself.
A Kiddush Hashem? I don't think so.
I think it would have been a bigger Kiddush Hashem if she would have just said, "due to my religion I wouldn't appreciate this, let someone who would appreciate it win.
ReplyDeleteEnough with the apikorsis & ignorant shtussim of Cyrano.
ReplyDeleteYosef taking eishes Potifar is yehurag v'al yaavor even for goyim.
And there are reasons why everyone including Potifar knew she was lying but he threw Yosef in prison anyway to save face for himself. Because he felt guilty about it he saw to it Yosef was treated better than the average prisoner.
