Rona Ramon was born in Kiryat Ono in 1964.She died from cancer this week at the young age of 54.

In 1998 the family moved to Huston to prepare for the STS 107 flight. After the Columbia accident, many remembrance initiatives rose to commemorate Ilan Ramon, the first Israeli astronaut.
As Rona's eldest son, Asaf, who realized his dream to become a fighter pilot, found his death in a training accident, Rona Ramon decided to dedicate her life to making it possible for all children to dream and to pursue their callings.
Before her death, Ramon left instructions that no funeral be held for her, and that her body be cremated, in order to spare her children having to bury another family member, according to reports in Hebrew-language media Tuesday.
Rona Ramon’s coffin will placed at the Peres Center for Peace and Understanding in Jaffa on Wednesday for a public farewell between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. A private memorial service will be held later on Wednesday afternoon.
The Ramon family said it will observe the traditional shiva mourning period at Peres Center on Thursday, Sunday and Monday from 10 am to 1 p.m. and 5 pm to 7 p.m.
Ilan Ramon zl is responsible for a worldwide kiddush Hashem that his shayla of how to be shomer Shabbos in space was poskened by Rav Elyashev ztl.
ReplyDeleteThis is terrible however from wherever his almana got the horribly misguided idea to be cremated. Someone should file a brief to halt the cremation for her own good. The Rabbanut probably has control over funerals.
