Kvartin was a contemporary of the greatest chazan of all time ( in my humble estimation) Yossele Rosenblatt. Here is a contemporary rendition of his famous Yom Kipur composition, V'af Hu Haya Mischavain. If anyone knows where to find the original Rosenblatt origional recording, please let me know. Although this rendition is faithful to the original, Rosenblatt's lyric tenor is unmatched for its extraordinary beauty and sweetness even through the old scratchy recording. Does anyone know where it can be found?
My great uncle heard him live and said that the moment Kwartin sang Tiher, the audience burst into tears, the recording doesn't do him justice. The same with Yossele's recordings. They tried 'cleaning' up his recording with new tech a few years ago but I don't think it works well.
Marvelous old recording.
