A stretch of Route 59 in Monsey is shut in both directions after three pedestrians were struck by a car on Monday afternoon, authorities said.
Although limited information was available, police said one of the victims was an infant and one was a small child. Police could not comment on the seriousness of the injuries, but said the children, along with one adult, have been taken to area hospitals for treatment.
Ramapo Police Sgt. Brian Corbett said the pedestrians were hit by a Toyota Corolla travelling west on Route 59 just before 3 p.m. by the Town Square Mall.
The infant was in a stroller, according to police.
No charges have been filed as the accident remains under investigation, Corbett said.
Since Route 59 between Route 306 and Kennedy Drive will be closed for the next several hours while authorities investigate what happened, Corbett urged drivers to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.
At the scene of the accident, Rockland County Legislator Aron Wieder renewed his call for more measures to be taken to enhance pedestrian safety in the area.
Wieder also tweeted, "Busiest Rd in Rockland. No sidewalks! Where are our State Representatives?"

I'm glad that at least the victims were standing in the same place. At first I was afraid of a terrorist attack, chalila, where the driver drove like a maniac from Kennedy to 306.

DeleteThis is obviously going to be turned into a "lets turn Monsey into Brooklyn" campaign. gone are the days monsey was a nice little town, theyre going to suck the tax payers dry and start adding 12 foot sidewalks to every road. The lower the speed limits to 25 MPH and put up speed trap cameras. Its almost as if the government and the developers paid this drek to run these poor people over.
ReplyDeleteHas anyone looked into whether this putz is a convert to Islam?
