Taliban Rabbis want to close Bnei Brak gym for ultra-Orthodox women

Vandalizing the owners' cars, damaging the locks at the entrance, putting up posters smearing the establishment: this is how residents of Bnei Brak are protesting against a newly-opened gym for ultra-Orthodox women, run by Sara and Yehuda Ganot.

Is it any wonder that serious frum people have lost all their faith in our "gedoilim"?

Just yesterday, Gedoilim banned frum girls from getting an academic degree and likened obtaining a degree to the Holocaust!
I wonder what my murdered grandparents and murdered brothers would say about that!
I am sure that given the choice they would have chosen an academic degree!

Rav Shteinman Shiltah was quoted as saying that it is far better to steal then getting a degree, because as he supposedly put it, "stolen money can be returned, but the soul is damaged forever"
Where do these people come off talking like this..
The Gemarrah in Sotah was absolutely correct that one of the signs the imminent arrival of Moshiach is that the leaders will be totally ignored...
The gemarrah's prediction has now come to fruition!

So you know what the frum ladies will do now? They will join the co-ed  gyms in nearby Ramat Gan and Tel Aviv ... let's see how that works out!

A new gym, exclusively for ultra-Orthodox women, has opened up in the conservative religious city of Bnei Brak – and the neighbors aren't happy about it.

Since the gym's owners, Sara and Yehuda Ganot, opened up shop, their cars have been vandalized, equipment has been stolen, posters smearing their venture have been put up, and the locks to the gym have been damaged.

Sara, who has been running a gym and health center for the last 10 years, decided a few months ago to rent a new studio and thus have separate spaces for men and women.

CCTV footage has captured neighbors vandalizing the gym in opposition to its presence.

According to Sara, a slandering campaign took off and she and female gym-goers have been subjected to systematic harassment. The city's residents are apparently acting in the belief that the place is immodest and increases the number of women in the street.

Children have been caught on security cameras trying to jam the locks of the gym entrance with chewing gum. They also stole the synthetic grass from the entrance and threw bags of rubbish on Sara's car, damaging it.

"The neighbors began this violent saga against women in the (ultra-Orthodox) sector," Ganot said. "Children throw stones, they print posters and distribute them to every woman who comes to register and train.

"The posters say that it is forbidden to work out at our gym. A rabbi who lives on the street says he is not prepared to accept a gym on the street because it will bring more women outside."

The rabbi is Avraham Yeshayahu Karelitz. He told Ynet: "The residents are opposed because it disturbs them."

It's not because you don't want more women to be in the street?

"That's incorrect. It disturbs the whole neighborhood. It does harm and we don't want it."

A few months ago, however, Sara and her husband Yehuda received a letter from Rabbi Karelitz stating: "I've heard that you are renovating the apartment on Bilu Street for a goal that is arousing great concern of spiritual harm to the families living in the area and their descendants.

"I've come to beg and plead for you not to do so," Karelitz continued.

In the course of their battle the neighbors also approached the Bnei Brak municipality with the aim of forcing the Ganots to stop their project, claiming that it constituted commercial activity in a residential building.

Sara and Yehuda Ganot received a stop work order as well as an eviction notice. The two claimed in response that the apartment is on a separate ground floor and therefore they are permitted to use it as a studio.

The pair said that they tried to sort out the matter with the municipality's engineering department. However, they claimed, the mayor of Bnei Brak informed them that he would not approve anything that would allow them to stay at the site.

According to the Ganots, the municipality is discriminating against them in relation to other businesses, after various different shops were opened in other residential apartments in the area over the past few months.

"Our neighbors have carried out various alterations without all the necessary permits, but the municipality is using selective enforcement against us," Sara said.

Bnei Brak municipality responded: "An indictment was issued against Mr. Ganot by the local court due to his carrying out building works outside what is permitted, including turning a residential apartment into a gym which, by the way, has music playing and noise from the exercise machines during its hours of operation.
"Rezoning a residential apartment requires a permit from the local planning and construction committee. In this case the plan is completely opposed by all the neighbors. The gym also doesn't have a business license as required by law," the statement continued.

"By comparison, all the shops in the area have the requisite license."

  1. As someone who knows the inner workings of kanoyim & gym politics, please allow me to fill in the missing context.

It always happens that there are kanoyim who don't learn very much and compensate by sticking their noses in everyone else's gesheft. A favorite issue for them is to shrey about gyms - even for kolel guys who go bain hasedorim on orders of the doctor.

They go running to gedolim and the gedolim are actually scared of them. Look what nutty kanoyim did to Rav Elyashev & Rav Sternbuch when they poskened al pi Hatorah instead of al pi the preference of crazy kanoyim.

So the gedolim pretend to the kanoyim they are interested and ask some preliminary questions to the gym people (but otherwise take no other action) so that they are not targeted for beatings, vandalism & having garbage & rotting eggs varfed at them.

Then the kanoyim take their own violent actions in the "name of gedolim".

Something like this even happened in Lakewood but B"H it did not become violent in the end.

And by the way, Rav Shteinman has recently received a lot of violent threats which is why he backpedalled about Tzahal. There really is no chiyuv for a 101 year old frail person to put his life in danger from these gangsters. Do you remember 2 years ago when a nut came to his house & started beating him to a pulp before everyone jumped him?

    1. The pasuk Lo Saguru is in effect even at 101 and if that's the reason for his backtrack than it's irrelevant anything else what he says because obviously he has an agenda

  2. "The pasuk Lo Saguru is in effect even at 101"

Not true! The early poskim say that even a young person is not mechuyev to be killed or just beaten for taking a stand, or at least in many areas of halacha as there are still exceptions like yhurag val yaavor etc

  3. Sounds like there is also a zoning issue, they are building a large or medium-sized commercial operation in a residential building and claiming in their ads "a big beautiful modern gym with latest equipment" and only for women! And then when they apply for building permit they say "just a little studio for a trainer and a few private clients"
They would never get permission for a gym in a residential building in a US suburb

You're spinning a clear directive M'dOrieseh .... LO Soguru is clear... A Posek, dayan or rav who paskens is told Lo Soguru...If he's afraid, then he resigns.. PERIOD... Nobody's talking about an ordinary eiershpeizz with ketchup eating zhlubb in the supermarket... Stop making excuses already.
And if the gangsters(kanoyim) are running the show, if they tell our rabbonim what to say, sign or pasken then we're in trouble... This has to stop.
Heed my call of abandoning the establishment leadership and let's find new ones... They're there, maybe they don't have the tucheslekking PR and great amounts of shuckling automatons but they're there... Enough already..Backpeddling, forwardpeddling...early poskim, late Rishonim,, stop it already...

So kvetching bananas at Wee Ling Ping's vegetable mart is l'chorah not nogayeh, but it makes for bayrris....
Maybe a similarity could be dringt aroys from knubbel Akum.... L'chorah, you may feed these to mother-in-law provided the outer skin is still extant.... B'tnei that she has you in mind b'kavanah in her will... Otherwise, what's the chiddush of rye bread having a cheskas rye bread if the slicing machine already sliced it?
It's the same if it were Sicilian tzibbillis...
