Crane Crashes On To Tappan Zee Bridge All Lanes Closed Indefinitely
At least two people were hurt Tuesday after a construction crane collapsed onto the Tappan Zee Bridge north of New York City, local media reported.
Paramedics rushed two people from the scene on stretchers,
Fox 5 reported
. Crews closed all lanes on the bridge and traffic reportedly backed up for miles.
Helicopter video showed the collapsed crane stretching across all six lanes of the bridge, which spans Rockland and Westchester counties.
Workers had been building a new bridge to replace the older span over the Hudson River. Emergency crews rushed to the scene.
The crane collapsed around noon Tuesday, the Rockland County executive's office reported.
In March, a 90-foot tugboat sank after it hit a construction barge near the bridge site, killing three crew members.
